David’s Comment: The Israeli Election and Purim – Calling the ‘Esthers’
Esther 4:14  Could it be that you have come to the Kingdom for such a time as this ?
I
Israel’s 3rd general election in 12 months was held last Monday. Polls which predicted a low voter turnout were proven wrong as the turnout was the highest in the last 21 years, with more that 56% of those eligble, casting their vote for the next Israeli government. Thus increase had a notable affect on the final result, which has given PM Netanyahu’s Likud party a great victory in the number of votes received, but still 3 seats short of the 61 he needs to form a government. Now he must negotiate with people from other political parties, to find three men or women who will cross over to join the Likud party members. The mood in the country is high in expectation that PM Netanyahu will succeed in forming the new government and breaking the cycle of holding elections every few weeks.
The fact that so many Israelis voted for PM Netanyahu and Likud is a strong statement that the majority of people favour the right wing approach concerning Israel’s borders and security.  The latest news is that Gantz is acting like a bad loser and is trying underhanded means to stop PM Netanyahu from continuing as Prime Minister. Unless PM Netanyahu finds the 3 extra seats quickly, It will probably be some time before we know the real outcome of the election. Please continue to pray that GOD will keep His hand on the political situation In Israel and that His choice will be established.

On Monday night the Jewish people in Israel and around the world will celebrate Purim, the non-Levitical festival that remembers and celebrates the defeat of the plot to destroy the Jewish people in ancient Persia. The heroine of the Purim story is Esther, a beautiful young Jewish woman whose brave actions saw the villain of the story, Haman, hanging dead on the very gallows he had built to hang Esther’s uncle Mordecai. Ultimately the plot was foiled, the Jewish people survived, and Esther became the queen. It was a very happy ending.

As I have written before and most of your know, ancient Persia is modern Iran, where the radical Islamic leadership still hates Israel as much as Haman did. The Iranian government is constantly calling for the total destruction of Israel, and the Iranian military is constantly improving its weaponry, and still working on developing nuclear weapons. No prizes for guessing which country would the most likely the first target of an Iranian nuclear missile. I believe that the same spirit that was over ancient Persia, that is operating in Iran today. It is most likely under the control of the spiritual principality of the Prince of Persia (Daniel 10:13 and 20) and Israel and the Jewish people are still the primary target.

One of the purposes of my sending out the Carmel Alert each week, and writing these comments, is to send accurate information to the Esthers and Ruths whom GOD has raised up in the Body of Yeshua in the nations. We praise YAH for the millions of Ruths (friends) that we know are out there, the largest numbers being in Africa, Asia and Brasil. These Christian friends of Israel love Israel more than many Jewish people do, and it is a great source of comfort to those of us living in Israel who know that there are so many people out there who love us and stand with us. Even more comforting is know that the number of Esthers out there is continually growing, as the GOD of Israel brings more and more Christians to the Holy Land, and then He sends the ones He is calling to be Esthers home with a new anointing to bring Israel and the Jewish people before the King.

I want to encourage you to seek the LORD as to whether He is calling you to be an Esther at this very strategic time for Israel. Israel needs more prayer than ever before. The political situation is still not good and may get worse. I am watching the news as I am writing this and the Coronavirus is spreading around Israel. More than 50,000 Israelis are already in home isolation and the number is growing. Travel in and out of the country is being more and more restricted by the day. The situation is becoming very serious and we need the ‘Esther Brigade’ to rise up to the occasion. One very important thing to be praying is that Israel’s enemies do not see a window of opportunity to launch an attach while the country is focus is on sorting out the election result and combatting the virus.

Israel needs another Purim ‘happy ending’ right now  …….  So come on Esthers – the GOD of Israel is waiting to hear from you.

The LORD bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist on all of the land given to the Jewish people by the GOD of Israel.  Please pray that all Israel will turn back to their GOD.  Do not be silent, but share this with your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to speak to. Lets also pray for a breakthrough to the Muslims, and please remember to pray Divine protection for all of the soldiers in the IDF.

Shabbat Shalom  …..  David & Josie

This Week’s News Items

1. PM Netanyahu Declares Huge Victory in 3rd Election    Times of Israel News    Feb 3rd
As the vote count in Israel?s election fluctuated from late Monday and long into Tuesday, the narrow arithmetic of Israel?s multi-party political system took center stage.  With the final votes still being counted, it was clear that PM Benjamin Netanyahu?s Likud had won more seats than Benny Gantz?s Blue and White, but a great deal was still hanging on the exact final tally. Even as the count proceeded on Tuesday, the balance between the Netanyahu-led right-wing-Orthodox bloc and the opposition center-left-Arab bloc shifted, sometimes fairly wildly. Within the space of a few minutes mid-morning, for instance, Blue and White was shown to be closing the gap on Likud (with 72 percent of votes counted), then the Netanyahu-led bloc was back up to 60 seats (with 81% counted), and then it slipped back to 59 seats (with 90% of votes counted) ? with further shifts emphatically still possible as soldiers? and other votes are tallied in a process unlikely to be completed before Wednesday. With 61 or more seats from those he calls his ?natural? allies ? the right-wing parties ? PM Netanyahu would have the smooth path to an immensely convenient Knesset majority that he failed to win in the elections last April and September. Not only would he be reconfirmed as prime minister, with no need to ?rotate? the premiership with Blue and White leader Gantz ? as President Reuven Rivlin proposed after September?s deadlocked election ? but he might also be tempted to contemplate seeking parliamentary immunity from prosecution or backing other legislative action that could avert his trial on three graft charges, which is due to start on March 17. Pray that PM Netanyahu finds 2 more seats and is able to form the new government.

2. Israeli Breakthrough in Coronavirus Vaccine    World Israel News  Feb 29th
Israeli researchers at MIGAL Institute have developed an effective vaccine against avian Coronavirus Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV) and are adapting it to create a human vaccine against  the Coronavirus (COVID-19), which is rapidly spreading around the globe. After four years of multi-disciplinary research funded by Israel?s Ministry of Science and Technology in cooperation with Israel?s Ministry of Agriculture, the MIGAL Galilee Research Institute has achieved a scientific breakthrough that may lead to the rapid creation of a vaccine against coronavirus in the coming weeks.
Research conducted at MIGAL has revealed that the poultry coronavirus has high genetic similarity to the human COVID-19 and that it uses the same infection mechanism, a fact that increases the likelihood of achieving an effective human vaccine in a very short time. The CEO of MIGAL, said that ?given the urgent global need for a human coronavirus vaccine, we are doing everything we can to accelerate development. Our goal is to produce the vaccine during the next 8-10 weeks, and to achieve safety approval in 90 days.? Pray that this vaccine will be effective and become available in the next few weeks

3. Israeli Doctors Advising Coronavirus Patients by Online Video Connection      United With Israel News   March 2nd
Using a Zoom video link over China?s Weibo social network, Israeli primary care physician Dr. Rachel Libenson Vansh answered Chinese coronavirus patients? questions in English with immediate translation into Chinese. This remarkable setup, which took place over a week ago, was the first in a series of interactive video broadcasts spearheaded by Israeli organization Innonation, which links talents, companies and organizations across borders through its hubs in Israel and China. One hundred Israeli physicians have volunteered to speak remotely with quarantined COVID-19 patients on topics of concern. Many people who have been put into quarantine, or are self-isolated at home, are worried and fearful and have many questions about their situation and how to look after themselves. The health systems in countries affected by the coronavirus are under tremendous pressure. They find it difficult to deal with the medical needs of people living under quarantine and with the general population that fears going to clinics and hospitals. The impressive volunteering of the best doctors in Israel help realize this project and meet the tremendous demand for the necessary medical knowledge. This Israeli volunteer initiative will provide them with the necessary know-how to deal with the daily medical difficulties that currently are not being met. The online project will target people in China, Japan, South Korea, Italy, the United States, Israel and any other countries where there are quarantines and fears about going out in public. The doctors who volunteered for the project are from some of Israel?s major medical centers, including Sheba, Tel Aviv, Rambam, Wolfson and Soroka. Pray that Israel will be used mightily in reducing the worldwide effects of the virus.

4. Health Official Says Virus is Unstoppable in Israel    World Israel News   March 4th
In a stark example of how a single coronavirus carrier can cause havoc, an Israeli who returned from Italy on Feb. 23 and tested positive for the virus has led to to a Health Ministry order confining a high school and 77 soccer fans to home isolation. The Israeli managed a toy store called the Red Pirate in the city of Or Yehuda. A 9th grader from the the High School in Givat Brenner visited the store. He has now tested positive, but not before attending a major soccer game at a stadium in Tel Aviv. As a result, 77 people who sat in rows near him are confined to two weeks of isolation at home. Initially, the Health Ministry required 5,000 people from the stadium to go into isolation but rescinded that order. Also sent to home isolation are the students, teachers and staff from the 9th grader?s school. The Health Ministry has requested that the prime minister sign off on an order to prohibit gatherings of  more than 2,500 people to control the spread of the disease. Health Ministry Deputy Director General said that widespread infections of coronavirus in Israel are not preventable. On a positive note, he said that so far there haven?t been reports of people having been infected who had not been outside of Israel, Kan news reported. Grotto also said that those who travel abroad should prepare themselves for the possibility that they will have to remain in quarantine, even if they come back from a country which is under no restrictions. Israel has created a list of countries from which travelers are expected to go into isolation upon their return. (France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Austria) Pray that this statement turns out to proven wrong and the virus is brought under full control

5. Alleged Israel Airstrikes Target Hezbollah and Syrian Airport
Syrian air defenses responded to attacks allegedly launched by Israel in southern and central Syria on Wednesday night, according to Syrian state news agency SANA. The Step News Agency reported that the airstrikes in Homs targeted a site belonging to the Lebanese Hezbollah terrorist group and the Dabaa Military Airfield. The attack was reportedly launched by Israel from over Lebanese airspace and the Golan Heights, according to SANA, and targeted Homs and the Quneitra region of southwestern Syria. The Syrian military told SANA that Syrian air defenses successfully prevented any of the rockets from hitting their targets. Homs is nearly 125 miles (about 200 km) away from the Golan Heights. After the strikes overnight, the airspace above the Golan Heights east of the Jordan River was closed to civilian flights over 5,000 feet (1,524 meters) for the next three days. Israel did not claim responsibility for the airstrikes. The airstrikes come just days after the IDF thwarted an attempted sniper attack along the Syria-Israel border in the Golan Heights on Monday as Israelis voted in the 23rd Knesset elections. ?IDF forces identified an attempted sniper attack in the northern Golan Heights and acted to thwart it, striking the vehicle involved in the attempt,? the army said. Pray that Israeli military is able to deal successfully with every threat on the borders.

6. PM Netanyahu and  Democracy in Israel Facing New Challenge   World Israel News    March 5th
The attempt to oust PM Netanyahu through legislation gained a critical ally on Thursday when Avigdor Liberman threw the support of his Israel Beiteinu party behind the effort. The party?s seven Knesset seats give the legislative initiative a majority of 62 in Israel?s parliament. In a statement the party said, ?At the faction meeting ending now, it was decided to advance two laws. The first is a law that limits a prime minister to two terms. The second is a law that prevents a Knesset member facing an indictment from forming a government.? It is the second that may be a present danger to Netanyahu?s premiership. ?Liberman?s announcement is dramatic, they say in the political system, because for the first time he is clearly taking sides,? Ynet reports. Liberman said before the third elections that there wouldn?t be a fourth and that he would take a side. He said when the ballots closed that he would not join PM Netanyahu?s government. The former defense minister has been a thorn in Netanyahu?s side since he quit the government in Nov. 2018, the event which started the ball rolling toward not one, but three Knesset elections. The bill won?t be introduced until after the next Knesset is sworn in, which will be in two weeks? time. PM Netanyahu reacted strongly to the news on Wednesday, saying ?Gantz is stealing the election. The effort that Gantz is leading undermines the foundations of democracy and the will of the voter,? PM Netanyahu said. ?This is an effort to divide the nation when we are facing serious challenges like the corona crisis,? Netanyahu said at a meeting of the right-wing bloc to which the press had been invited. Blue and White MK Ofer Shelah told Ynet on Wednesday that that the party intends to do everything to prevent Netanyahu from serving, ?including a parliamentary move.? Pray that GOD will be sovereign in this unprecedented situation in Israeli politics.

7. Jordan, Syria & Israel Prepare for Locust Swarm    VFI News   Feb 28th
Jordan’s Ministry of Agriculture has announced an “utmost state of emergency” as locust swarms descended on Saudi Arabia via Yemen. Minister of Agriculture, Ibrahim Shehadeh said that an emergency room had been set up with the cooperation of several departments including the Royal Jordanian Air Force, the Royal Badia Forces and the Jordan Customs Department. Syria, which borders Israel along with Jordan is preparing for an outbreak as well. Israel is also preparing for the possibility of the first desert locust infestation in seven years. The infestation in 2013 caused hundreds of thousands of shekels in damage to Israel’s agriculture industry. In a recent situation evaluation, Agriculture Minister Hanegbi said that there is currently only a low chance that the locusts will come to Israel but stressed that the forecast could change, and preparations should be made in advance. Iran has also begun preparing for the swarms currently located south of the country. Agricultural experts in Iran have warned that the locusts could invade Iran’s central regions as well.  Pray that the LORD redirects the locusts away from Israel
