David’s Comment: In Memory of Our Uncle Michael – Do Not Neglect to Share the Good News ….. Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of one of His saints
I am writing this comment after returning from the Messianic Jewish section of the Haifa cemetery, at the foot of Mt. Carmel, after laying our 96 year old Uncle Michael to rest. Josie and I and our family were joined by our Pastors and friends of the family to celebrate the life of our Uncle Michael who passed away on Friday evening, after he enjoyed what was to be his last Shabbat dinner. Uncle Michael was not suffering from any illness, but over the last 6 years, his physical body began to show the fruit of nine decades of life on ‘fallen’ Planet Earth. Most of his long life, Uncle used the name Monty, short for Montague, his middle name. We used to call him Uncle Monty, but I preferred to use his first name, Michael, as it has a powerful meaning in the original Hebrew version – Mi Ca El ? …. Who is like GOD ? Most of the people here in Israel who knew him simply called him ‘Uncle’.
I was born in New Zealand and my Uncle lived in London, so the first time I got to know him was when I was about 10 years old, when he spent a year visiting my father. Then in 1983 Josie and I spent 6 months living and working in London. Every weekend Uncle would take us out in his car to see the famous parts of England. We had a great time over those months, and Josie grew to love and enjoy Uncle as much as I did. We returned to New Zealand and Uncle moved to ‘sunny Spain’ to get away from the rain and cold weather of the UK.
In 1986 Josie became a Believer and I became a Believer in 1987, and five years later in 1992, at the calling of the LORD we brought our 2 sons, Stefan and Jordan, to live in Israel. Uncle was very close across the Mediteranean on the east coast of Spain, so I kept inviting him to come and visit us. He never came. Then when Stefan was coming up to 13 and preparing to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah, I invited Uncle to attend that very special event, sure that he would finally accept the invitation to come to Israel. He wrote back to say he would not be coming, that he did believe in God, but he wanted nothing to do with the Jewish, or any other religion. I took the open opportunity and wrote back to Uncle saying that it was wonderful that he believed in God, but which God did he believe in. Was it Buddah, a wooden or stone idol, or some other spiritual being ? I went on to say that I believed that the true GOD revealed Himself to the world through Moses and the nation of Israel.
I took an even greater risk and told Uncle that the true GOD sent His Son to lay down his life as a Levitical sacrifice to make atonement for our sins, and that is he only way for every human being to get right with the Father. Months went by and I did not hear back from Uncle, so I began to think that my letter had angered him, and he did not want any more to do with me. Finally his reply arrived and I was pleasantly shocked to read his words … I have always believed that if the rabbis taught the Jewish people so strongly that Jesus was the not the Messiah, then he probably was. I immediately wrote back to him …. Uncle – we need to speak face to face – please come to Israel.
This time he agreed and he arrived on the eve of Passover 2002. By the time the Passover Seder was over, Uncle was ready to accept Yeshua as His personal Messiah. The next day Josie and I continued to share the Word of the LORD with Uncle to be sure that he was really serious about giving his life to the LORD. The next day we took him to the Elijah site on Mt. Carmel and led him in the prayer of salvation as we stood overlooking the Valley of Armaggedon. Then we drove to the Sea of Galilee and baptised Uncle Michael in the name of the Father, Yeshua the Son and the Holy Spirit. The rest of the two weeks that he was with us, the Holy Spirit would come over him in stong waves and he would begin to weep.
The next year we convinced Uncle to leave Spain and he has lived 400 metres away from our home on Mt. Carmel ever since – until the spirit of Michael Montague Silver left the Earth last Friday night, to be with his Father / Creator in Eternity. It was only his 96 year old, withered, weak, worn out physical body, primarily made of dust and water, that we returned to the dust of the Earth at the cemetery Sunday afternoon. Of course we will all miss him, especially Stefan and Jordan, as he was a grandfather to them.
As well as sharing Uncles testimony with you to honour what the LORD did in his latter years, I pray that it encourages you to continue to share the Good News of the New Covenant with your family, friends, neighbours, the people you work with, and even strangers who you encounter along the way. Time is short and becomes 7 days shorter every week. It is urgent that the lost find their way back to arms of their loving Father / Creator.
Romans 1:16 I am not asharmed of the Gospel; it is the power of GOD unto salvation for everyone who believes …… to the Jewish people first
Romans 10:1 How will they believe unless they hear and how will they hear unless someone preaches
The LORD bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist on all of the land given to the Jewish people by the GOD of Israel. Please pray that all Israel will turn back to their GOD. Do not be silent, but share this with your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to speak to. Lets also pray for a breakthrough to the Muslims, and please remember to pray Divine protection for all of the soldiers in the IDF.
Shabbat Shalom ….. David & Josie

1. US State Department Decides that Settlements in Judea and Samaria are NOT Illegal INN News Nov 19th
In a historic reversal of US policy, the Trump administration announced on Monday that it does not view Israeli settlements in the West Bank as illegal. The policy change was announced by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Washington. ?After carefully studying all sides of the legal debate, this administration agrees with President Reagan,? Pompeo said in reference to Ronald Reagan?s position that settlements were not inherently illegal. ?The establishment of Israeli civilian settlements in the West Bank is not per se inconsistent with international law,? Pompeo said. Pompeo?s remarks, The Jerusalem Post has learned, came after a year-long review conducted by the State Department?s legal office. The team met with international law experts as well as officials from different governments to hear their opinions. While it was not immediately clear how the new policy would impact the future roll out of the Trump peace plan, US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman said that the announcement Monday could actually advance peace between Israel and the Palestinians. I am pleased that the effort has concluded and that the Secretary?s conclusions have been published,? Friedman tsaid. ?I believe that they will bring truth and clarity to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and advances the cause of peace. The hard truth is that there will never be a judicial resolution to the conflict and arguments about who is right and who is wrong as a matter of international law will not bring peace,? he said. ?This is a complex political problem that can only be solved by negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians.? Pray that more Western nations will come to realise they have been lied to about the Jewish settlements on the Promised Land are not illegal.
2. Recent Missile Conflict Proves Deterrence Works INN News Nov 17th
Dr. Eran Lerman, former Deputy Head of the National Security Council and the Vice President of the Jerusalem Institute for Security and Strategy, told Arutz Sheva that Israel not only won the recent round of fighting, but also significantly strengthened the deterrence felt by terror organizations. “The most significant thing – and it itself is proof that there is deterrence – is the fact that Hamas did not join the fighting,” Dr. Lerman said. “We have a situation in which Israel carried out widespread missions in Gaza territory, with dozens of people killed on the other side, and the main force in Gaza – Hamas – did not join the fighting. They made it clear to Islamic Jihad that they are completely on their own in this.” ‘Hamas understood the price that they are liable to pay, and that’s the best proof that Israel’s deterrence exists. It even grew, because we crossed a certain line when we hit someone who actively tried to ignite the area as an emissary of the Iranians, and his elimination made it clear that we will not tolerate that.” Pray that the other terror groups also learn the same lesson that Hamas has and refrain from provoking Israel
3. President Rivlin Calls On All Parties to Come to Their Senses and Form a Government Times of Israel Nov 17th
With Benny Gantz?s Wednesday deadline to form a government quickly approaching, President Rivlin calls on the Blue and White and Likud parties to get a grip and to put together government to avoid a third round of elections in less than a year. ?I call on both Likud and Blue and White to come to their senses and understand the nation doesn?t want further elections. It has had enough of these elections,? President Rivlin said during a visit to the southern city of Netivot. ?You have problems? There are personal problems? They are possible to solve,? Rivlin adds. The president says the two parties should first reach agreement on the principles of a coalition and then put together a government. ?A government that politically will be possible to exist, you are representatives of the sovereign, but never forget ? the sovereign is the nation,? President Rivlin added. Pray that a government will be formed this week.
4. Forty Percent of Israels Prefer a Broad Unity Government INN News Nov 17th
An recent poll showed that more Israelis prefer a narrow right-wing government than a narrow left-wing government. The poll showed that 40% of Israelis would like to see a unity government with Likud, Blue and White, and Yisrael Beytenu. Another 28% prefer a narrow right-wing government and 17% prefer a narrow left-wing government. An additional 15% said they do not know. The poll also showed that just 22% have a large amount of faith in the police force, and 28% have a large amount of faith in the Prosecutor’s Office. When asked who they would vote for if there were direct elections for prime minister, 43% said they would vote for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, while 41% said they would vote for Blue and White Chairman MK Benny Gantz. An additional 16% said they did not know who they would vote for. Again lets pray that this confused political mess will be sorted out this week and that a unity government will be formed
5. Four Rockets Fired at Israel From Syria World Israel News Nov 20t
Sirens sounded in the Golan Heights in Israel?s north early Tuesday morning. The IDF reports that four launches were identified from Syria towards Israeli territory which were intercepted by the Israeli air defense systems. No hits on Israeli communities were identified. It is not yet clear who was responsible for the attack. Several attempts to hit Israel from Syria have been launched in recent months. In early September, the IDF said that a missle attack in the early hours of the morning was Iranian orchestrated ?The firing was carried out by members of Shiite militias led by the Iranian Quds Force from Syrian territory on the outskirts of Damascus,? the IDF tweeted, adding that Israel ?views the Syrian regime as responsible for any action taken from its territory.? In June, 2 rockets were fired from inside Syria towards Israel’s side of Mt. Hermon on the Golan Heights. No casualties or damage were reported in that attack. Israel has admitted to attacking terror targets in Syria in an effort to halt the entrenchment of Iran on Syrian territory, which it considers an unacceptable threat. ?We will not allow anyone to entrench its might and endanger the State of Israel,? said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in April. Israel launched retalitory strikes near Damascus killing more than 23 Iranian and Syrian military personnel. Pray that the northern border remains at peace for as long as possible.
6. Iran Behind all Terror and Missile Attacks Against Israel
Iran uses its terrorist proxy Palestinian Islamic Jihad to strike our great ally Israel. Iran does not want peace in the region. It does not want the Palestinian people to prosper. It wants more conflict. Until we address Iran?s threats, the cycle of violence will continue. Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) fired over 450 rockets at Israel in a 48-hour period starting on Tuesday of last week, after the IDF killed one of its commanders in a precision missile strike. Although a Sunni organization, Palestinian Islamic Jihad is inspired by the Shi?ite revolution in Iran. Accrding to the organization, the Iranian revolution proved that ?Islam was the solution and Jihad was the proper means.? Iran is a major funder of the organization. Islamic Jihad doesn?t hide its connection to Iran. “Only Tehran will decide if the current round of rocke atacks continues or stops,? a senior PIJ leader said last Wednesday. A ceasefire that went into effect Thursday morning last week seems to be more honored in the breach than in the observance as rockets continue to be fired from the Gaza Strip. Pray that the ceasefire holds for an extended period of time
7. Israel’s Attorney General d Decides to Indict PM Netanyahu Times of Israel News Nov 21st
In a decision that drastically shakes up Israeli politics amid already ongoing chaos, Israel’s Attorney General announced Thursday that PM Netanyahu will be charged with criminal wrongdoing in three separate cases against him, including bribery in the far-reaching Bezeq corruption probe. The decision marks the first time in Israel?s history that a serving prime minister faces criminal charges, casting a heavy shadow over Netanyahu, Israel?s longest-serving prime minister, and his ongoing attempts to remain in power. According to the full indictment released by the Justice Ministry, Netanyahu will be charged with fraud and breach of trust in Cases 1000 and 2000, and bribery, fraud and breach of trust in Case 4000, the state prosecution said. The Attorney General
called the decision ?a difficult and sad day? and said his ruling was made with a heavy heart but also without hesitation. Law enforcement isn?t optional. It?s not a question of politics. It?s a duty incumbent upon us?. We were not swayed by slander from all sides, and acted only to enforce the law,? he said, referring to criticism from Netanyahu supporters who have accused prosecutors of conducting a witch hunt to unseat the prime minister. He called the accusations and ?many lies? made about the prosecution ?dangerous? and said propagators of such claims were ?playing with fire. It must stop. I call on everyone, and first and foremost the leaders of the state, you must distance yourself from discourse that threatens law enforcement officials. We?re not infallible or above criticism. But we acted without fear or prejudice, for the rule of law. Pray that righteousness and justice will prevail in these cases against PM Netanyahu
