The Restoration of the Church
Restoring the Anointing & Power of the Early Church
The Restoration of the Church – PDF Version
For more than 15 years I have been speaking to Christians in more than 40 nations about the Restoration of Israel, which we believe is a pre-requisite to the Second Coming of Messiah (Acts 3:21), to set up the Kingdom of YHVH on the Earth in Jerusalem.
That restoration includes the return of the Promised Land, the return of the Jewish people to the Promised Land (Ezekiel 36:8-10), the acceptance of Yeshua being the Messiah of Israel by all Jews (Romans 11:27), and the restoration of the Apostolic calling on the Jewish people (Matthew 28:18-20) to be a light to the nations.
The Christian Church is called to work with the LORD (1 Corinthians 3:9 – 2 Peter 3:12) as He fulfills His restoration promises. (Isaiah 49:22, Romans 11:11)
In 2015 the LORD began to speak to my heart about “changing gear.” I believe that part of that change is that He is calling me to move my focus from the Restoration of Israel to the Restoration of the Church, a further sign that we are living in the End Times and the return of Yeshua is getting very close.
I believe that this is such an important issue for all of the Body of Messiah that I felt to make it available at no cost. And you are permitted to make copies and pass them around (at no cost) – Please do ………
If you want to restore something you need to know what the original looked like. You can take a Model A Ford and rebuild it into a custom hot rod ….. but if you want to restore the Model A, you need to make it exactly the same as the day it came out of the assembly line – you need the ‘maker’s design plans.
The Restoration of the Church
During the worship time in a meeting in South Africa late 2015, I was praying about the message for that night, when I felt the Holy Spirit say to me “I want you to be My optician.” When I asked what that meant He said “I want you to help the Body of Messiah to change the way she sees.”
I then asked “what does that mean?” The reply came, “My Body needs to change the way she sees things in the following areas”
“The way they see Me”
“The way they see My Son”
“The way they see herself”
“The way they see Israel”
“The way they see My Torah”
In this booklet I will address each of the above issues, of course from a Biblical perspective. Unless otherwise indicated Bible texts will be from the NKJ version.
For most people, what follows will very likely be very foreign and even difficult to accept, so I encourage you to get your Bibles out to make sure that I am quoting the verses correctly, and please pray that the Holy Spirit will confirm what I am writing.
Allow me to pray … Father I thank you for Your son or daughter who is about to read this book and I cancel all previous theology that has not come from You and I pray that you will open the eyes of their understanding to receive Your truth. Holy Spirit please confirm what is true and alert to what is not – In the Name of Yeshua (Jesus) ….. Amen.
Why Does the Church Need to be Restored ?
What we call “the Church” today has its true roots in Israel. For the first hundred years of the Church most of the Believers in Yeshua were Jewish people living in Jerusalem, who lived through the life, death and resurrection of the Lord, and came out the other side of that believing that He was the long awaited Messiah of Israel. In those days they only had the Hebrew Scriptures as the New Testament was yet to be compiled.
The “Church” was still very connected to her Hebraic roots and had a very Hebraic view of the Bible and their faith. It was in those times that signs, wonders and miracles were the expected norm. If we want to see that same supernatural power restored, then perhaps the key is to restore the way the early Believers viewed the Bible and their faith.
Let us take a look at the 5 issues that I believe the Holy Spirit spoke to me about that night in South Africa.
Changing the Way We See …….
If we line up 10 people from different religions and ask them if they believe in God, they will all say “yes”, but most of them will be referring to different gods.
We need to be specific as to who our God is. Most people just refer to ‘God’, but that is His generic title, not His name. His name is YHVH – most probably pronounced Yahvey or Yehovah. He also introduced Himself as the ‘God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob’ and ‘the God of Israel.’
Because most Believers don’t spend a lot of time (if any) reading the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament), they don’t really know the God they claim to worship. YHVH reveals Himself and His nature and character in His dealings with Israel.
We can learn from the Hebrew Scriptures that He is a covenant making and covenant keeping God, and that He is a faithful God. Even when Israel was not faithful to God, He was, and still is being faithful to Israel.
He is a God of love but He is also a God of wrath and judgement and is also described as ‘a consuming fire.’ He is also a God of war. (Exodus 15:3)
That view of God may not be comfortable for a lot of people, who seem to see Him as a kind of ‘Santa Claus’ God. He is a loving God, but He is much more than that ……
We need to be sure we see YHVH the way He describes Himself.
2. Yeshua (Jesus)
The view that many Believers have of Yeshua is a very European or Nordic figure. Most pictorial representations of Yeshua show a very white skinned man with blond hair and blue eyes.
I am sure that the true Yeshua is a very Jewish looking man – olive skin, black hair and brown eyes. As a baby He was circumcised on the 8th day as is the custom for all Jewish boys. He grew up around life in the local synagogue.
Even the Romans were aware of His Jewish identity – they wrote above the cross “Yeshua of Nazareth, King of the Jews.”
Yeshua’s Jewish identity has not changed now that the New Covenant is in place. In the last book of Revelation we see Him described as “the Lion of the Tribe of Judah.” (Revelation 5:5)
If the Bible shows Yeshua to be Jewish, then that is how we should all see Him – as the Jewish Messiah.
3. The Identity of the Church – The ‘Olive Tree’
The word Church is not in the original text of the New Testament.
The Greek word that was translated into English as ‘Church’ is ‘Ecclesia’, which means the called out or set apart ones. Ecclesia is translated as “Community” in the Complete Jewish Bible (CJB) and in Luther Bible in German as “Gemeinde” which means the same as community in English.
As I said in an earlier section, what we call “the Church” today began as a large number of Jews who lived through the life, death and resurrection of Yeshua and came out the other side believing that He was the Messiah.
The Jewish apostles and disciples obeyed the last instruction their Master gave them in Matthew 28:18-20 “go into all the world and make disciples.” As a result a growing number of non-Jews were being added to the Body of Messiah, worshiping the God of Israel.
To make sure these non-Jews understood what had happened to them, God has Paul make it very clear in Romans 11:17 Some of the natural branches have been broken off, and you a wild branch have been grafted in, among them and with them.
Paul states in Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; are all are one in Christ Jesus. The following graphic should make it clear to see and understand.
This identity issue is addressed once again in Ephesians 2:11–19
Remember that you were once separated from Messiah, aliens to the Commonwealth of Israel, strangers to the covenants of promise, without God or hope … v13 you who were once far off have been brought near by the blood of Messiah .. v19 therefore you are no longer aliens or foreigners but FELLOW CITIZENS, with the saints and the members of the household of God.
And according to Romans 4:9-13 Abraham is the spiritual father of all who believe “through the righteousness of faith.”
According to these New Testament verses, the Church was never meant to be separated from Israel and the Jewish people.
I believe that when YHVH looks down on the Earth from Heaven, He divides the whole world into 2 groups – Israel and the rest, or Israel and the other nations.
If God sees Israel and the ‘Church’ in such an intimately connected way, then that is how we should all see that relationship.
There are some very good reasons why it so important that the entire Body of Messiah understands our Biblical identity ….
1/. To be fully assured of our authority and rights as members of the New Covenant. As we read in Galatians 3:29 if you are the seed of Messiah, you are also the seed of Abraham.
On the basis of that scripture, the spiritual seeds of Abraham have an equal share in every promise made to the physical seed of Abraham.
2/. Israel is currently facing the most perilous time of her entire history, as the Devil deceives the Muslims, the politicians, the media and much of the ‘Church’, into working with him in his final attempt to destroy Israel, in he desperately tries to prevent the second coming of the Messiah.
There is only one group of people who can protect Israel at this very strategic time – the praying Church, which must pray from a place of understanding God’s plans and purposes for Israel.
Of course all prayer is good, but the kind of prayer that really moves God’s hand and changes the situation, must come out of a deep identification with whom we are praying for. I am sure you will agree that when we pray for an issue that is personal or very close to us, we pray differently than when we pray for a stranger.
We believe that YHVH is looking for the Body of Messiah to pray for Israel as if our life depends upon it – because it does!
According to Genesis 12:3, how it goes for you in this life depends upon how you act towards Israel and the Jewish people. Romans 11:25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in
And our eternal destiny, which we fully enter into when the Kingdom comes to Earth, is dependant on how we pray for Israel, as we read in Acts 3:21 that Yeshua will not leave Heaven until the restoration of Israel is complete. Acts 3:21 … whom Heaven must contain until the time of the restor -ation of all that God spoke through the mouth of the prophets since the world began.
Many in the Body of Messiah also need to change the way they see Israel. They have fallen for the media lie that Israel is an Apartheid State, or that the Israeli Jews are occupying someone else’s land.
Actually the latter is true! The land of Israel belongs to God. In fact all of the Earth belongs to God. Psalm 24:1 The Earth is the LORD’s and all its fullness. It is the LORD’s land and He can do what He wishes with it.
He has given the Earth for us to live on, and He decides when we live and where we live. Psalm 115:16 The Heavens are the Lord’s, but the Earth He has given to the children of men.
Acts 17:26 He has determined their pre-appointed times, and the boundaries of their dwellings.
Israel is the only country in the world that God specifically defined the borders of ……
Genesis 15:18 On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates (under-line is mine)
And now for the most binding and legitimate land deed ever written, because it was written by God Himself ……………
Psalm 105:6-11 The covenant which He made with Abraham, and His oath to Isaac and He confirmed it to Jacob for a statute; to Israel as an everlasting covenant, saying “TO YOU, I will give the land of Canaan.” (underline is mine)
“Yes”, some may say, “but Israel broke the covenant”. No they didn’t! When God cut the covenant with Israel, He put Abraham to sleep. Israel disobeyed God, but didn’t break the covenant promises. Abraham didn’t promise God anything – he was asleep. (Gen 15:12)
However God did scatter the Jewish people because of their dis-obedience, but He promised them that He would regather them at the ‘end of the age’.
Jeremiah 30:3 For behold the days are coming says the Lord that I shall bring back from captivity my people Israel and Judah, says the Lord and I will cause them to return to the land I gave their fathers, and they shall possess it ! (underline is mine)
The British Partition of Palestine
The Promised Land was under Islamic control during the reign of the Turkish led Ottoman Empire. World War 1 broke out in 1914 and the fighting spread all across Europe and the Middle East. It seems that God was at work changing the borders in Europe and preparing to use the British Empire to defeat the Ottoman Turks and liberate the Holy Land from Islamic control.
In 1917 British politician and Bible believing Lord Balfour presented a paper to the British government stating the case for a Jewish homeland. He divided the land following the Jordan River from the Golan Heights in the north, to the Red Sea in the south, and back to the Mediterranean coastline. All of the land west of the Jordan was to be for the Jews.
The ‘Palestinian People” is a Modern Day Myth
Since the Six Day war in 1967, Israel has been accused of ‘occupying the land that belongs to the Palestinians. The truth is that there never has been a nation or people called by that name. It has only been spoken about since 1967. There is even recorded evidence of Arab spokespeople confirming that fact.
The San Remo Convention of 1923
The Balfour Partition was only a paper for the British government – it carried no international authority. However from 1921- 1923 the San Remo Convention held in San Remo, Italy and attended by 51 member states of the League of Nations, including Britain, USA, Canada and Europe ratified or confirmed the Balfour plan giving all of the land west of the Jordan to the Jewish people.
International Law – Since the 6 Day War of 1967, the UN, the media and many politicians constantly claim that Israel is illegally occupying the territory that it gained during the brief war. How-ever International Law clearly states that land gained in defense of external aggression is seen as legitimate spoils of war.
From the preceding facts we can see that the Jewish people have full God-given authority to rightfully ‘occupy’ the land that YHVH promised to Abraham. And today a full 25% of Israelis are Arabs, 80% Muslims and 20% Christian, Bedouin and Druze. They are all equal citizens with full voting rights, and are totally free to live as they desire, and practice whatever religion they choose. Therefore, we can see that Israel is NOT an Apartheid State in any way whatsoever.
Furthermore, not only is Israel NOT illegally occupying anyone else’s land, and is not an Apartheid State, Israel is an absolute MIRACLE nation. I used to speak about the restoration of Israel, but I came to see that it is not restoration at all. We can pray for a sick person and see them restored and of course that is a miracle. But if we are dealing with a dead person, restoration is not enough. It needs to be resurrection.
With Israel we are dealing with a dead people and a land that had been dead for almost 2000 years. In Ezekiel 37:1-10 we read about the dead “Dry Bones” – the Jewish people. In verse 12-14 we see the Jewish people coming out of their graves.
What kind of people do you find in graves Dead people !
Prior to May 14th 1948 most of Israel was just desert and mosquito infested swampland. There were no trees north of Mt. Carmel. It was a dead land.
Since 1948 more than 6 million ‘Dry Bones’ have come back to live in Israel. In the early 1990’s, more than 1000 Jews came home to Israel every day. Now it has slowed down to about 900 per week, but they are still coming home and the numbers are on the increase once again because of rapidly rising Anti-Semitism.
The once dead land now produces copious quantities of the best tasting fruit and vegetables in the world, which are exported to many other nations, (if they are not boycotting Israel).
Most of the latest technology is developed in Israel, and most of the latest medical advances are also coming out of Israel. Not only has the 67 year old nation of Israel caught up with the rest of the world, in many ways Israel has overtaken the rest of the world.
When I am not outside of Israel on ministry tours, I often meet with Christian tour groups. I like to meet them at the beginning of the tour to make sure that they all see Israel with the right glasses on. This is what I tell them … “as you travel around Israel in your bus or car, everything you see out of the window is a miracle. Everything you hear is a miracle. Everything you eat is a miracle. Yes it is all a huge miracle, because none of it was there 67 years ago!
A dead people and a dead land have come back to life. This is not just restoration – it is resurrection. Resurrection is a miracle!
I believe that the resurrection of Israel as a nation on May 14th 1948 was, and still is the greatest miracle the world has seen since the resurrection of the Son of God 2000 years ago.
And that is how YHVH wants the Body of His Son to see His nation.
Why is it so important? Because Israel will become the capital of the Kingdom of YHVH on the Earth. Many Christians don’t know this, but the Devil does. That is why he is engaging most of the world and much of the Church in this final attempt to destroy Israel. And that is why the true Body of Messiah (the Children of God John 1:12) must see Israel as the LORD does, so that they can pray and intercede for Israel’s protection and full resurrection.
5. The Torah
* Is GOD’s pattern for Kingdom Living
* Is GOD’s guide for community life
* Is GOD’s instruction manual for our best life now
* Convicts us of our sin
The issue of the Torah is the ‘biggie’ for an eyesight change. For the last 1900 years the cry of the Church has been “we are not under the law but under grace.”
Firstly, the Hebrew word Torah which is usually translated as law actually means instruction. The word Torah comes from the word yawrah which means to hit the mark, or to hit the target.
Secondly, the Torah is grace. God was gracious to us in giving us His instructions for the best way to live as a citizen of His Kingdom.
Thirdly, our role models ….
1. King David tells us in Psalm 19:7 that the Torah of YHVH is perfect, restoring the soul. Does your soul need restoring? Throughout Psalm 119, David many times praises GOD for His Torah.
2. The Apostle Paul was a 1st century Rabbi and Pharisee who by his own admission in Acts 28:17, he never contravened one of the traditions or customs of his people. In 1 Corinthians 11:1 Paul urges us to imitate him as he imitates Yeshua. Which leads me to the most relevant point ……
3. Our ultimate goal as a son or daughter of YHVH is to become more like out greatest role model – His Son Yeshua. Romans 12:2 says “do not be conformed to this world but be transformed.” I believe that Paul is meaning to be transformed to become like the image of Yeshua.
In the USA many people have been wearing a bracelet with WWJD? printed on it. That stands for What Would Jesus Do? Many Christians seem to be aware that we need to be more like Yeshua, but they seem to be unaware of the fact, or ignore the fact that our Master was a Torah keeping Jew. If we truly want to be more like Yeshua, then we need to, as best we can, live the way He lived. Then I believe we will do more of the things He did (signs, wonders and miracles).
However the majority of Christian Bible teachers and preachers teach the Church that Yeshua abolished the Torah, but that is not what He was teaching.
Matthew 5:17-18 Do not think that I came to abolish the Torah or the prophets. I did not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Not one jot or tittle shall pass from the Torah until all is accomplished. (TLV) All is yet to be accomplished !
In Matthew 23:1-3 Yeshua told the crowd and His disciples that the scribes and Pharisees sit on Moses seat, therefore do and observe all that they tell you to do.
Matthew 28:18-20 Yeshua gave the disciples the great commission to go into all the world teaching them to do all that He had commanded them to do.
Some may counter that by saying “well that was for the early Church.” Not according to the prophet Isaiah Isaiah 2:1-3 It shall come to pass in the latter days … the Torah shall go forth from Zion.
John 14:15 Yeshua said If you love me, obey my commandments
1 John 2:6 If we abide in Him, we should walk as He walked
Revelation 14:12 Here is a call for the endurance of the Saints, those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Yeshua
That means we still ought to do our best to follow the instructions that our Father in Heaven gave us to enable us to live life to the fullest.
As soon as someone starts talking the way I am about the Torah, the accusation of “Judaiser” or “legalism” is heard. Actually, in a way we are called to be “Judaisers”! As I said above, we are supposed to be helping others become more like Yeshua, and He was, is and forever will be a Torah keeping Jew, and the goal of every Believer is to become more like Yeshua every day. Actually good Bible living Christians are already fulfilling most of the aims of the Torah.
Again I am not being legalistic. In English we have the words must, should, and ought. I am not saying you must or even should live by Torah. What I am saying is that if you want the best life for you and your family, then you ought to live by the Torah, because ….
It is the ‘Maker’s manual.’ The Torah lays out YHVH’s annual calendar (Sabbath and the Feasts of the LORD). The Torah is also a health manual. The Torah is a marriage manual.
The Torah is a how to raise your family manual. The Torah is a how to treat your friends and even strangers manual. The Torah is a business manual and the Torah is a war manual.
The main areas of instruction in the Torah teach us how to. ..
- relate to GOD – fear, respect and obedience
- treat ourselves – personal hygiene and food
- treat others – spouses, children, servants or workers
When the Pharisees tried to catch Yeshua out as a Torah breaker by asking “What are the 2 most important commandments?”, He answered them “Love God with all your heart, all your mind and all your strength and love your neighbour as you love yourself.” (Please note there are actually 3 commands contained in the 2.)
Yeshua gave them those same three areas of Torah. If we can succeed in those three, then we have fulfilled all of the Torah.
There is further clarification from the Apostle Paul in Romans 7. In verse 1 Paul is addressing his Jewish brothers who know the Torah. As Jews they understand about blood covenants and that marriage is a blood covenant made in front of GOD. The GOD of Israel does not break covenants. Paul reinforces the fact that a spouse is bound to the other spouse by the covenant of blood until one of them dies, then the marriage covenant is no longer in place.
In Romans 7:1-4 Paul tells these ‘born again’ Jewish Believers “likewise, you are no longer bound to the Torah as they have died and are now covenanted to Yeshua”.
If you are truly born again you are covenanted and bound to Yeshua. If you are bound hand and foot to another person, you go where they go, you do what they do and you eat what they eat.
Again I am not talking about legally imposing any laws on you. I am simply suggesting that every person who has the expectation of eternal life in the Kingdom of YHVH, and wants to enjoy a good, healthy and prosperous life now, ought to do the best to follow the Creator’s instructions.
The bottom line is, the more of the Torah we succeed to keep, the better our life will be and the better life will be for every one around us.
God is not so interested in our bodies as one day they will return to the dust. He is not concerned with our spirit as that belongs to Him already. What GOD is really concerned about is our hearts. In Proverbs 3:2 the LORD says to us “My son (or my daughter) let your heart keep my commands.”
Instead of arrogantly declaring that we are “not under the law, but under grace,” which I believe is an insult to the grace and goodness of YHVH. He is looking for His sons and daughters to have the correct heart attitude towards His Torah, and like King David, thank Him and praise Him for giving us His perfect instructions, and to do the best we can to live by them.
And when we fail as even the great Apostle Paul did Romans 7:15
“How is then that I do not the things that are good, but I practice the things that I hate,” we do have a way out ……. “O wretched man that I am. Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to GOD, through Yeshua my Messiah!”
What is the New Covenant?
The answer to the question is found is Jeremiah 31:31 “Behold the days are coming says YHVH, that I will make a New Covenant with the House of Israel and the House of Judah …… I will put my Torah within them and I will write my Torah on their hearts.”
So we see from the Word of YHVH Himself that the New Covenant is the Torah internalized.
I don’t believe that He intends to overwhelm us by dropping the entire Torah into our hearts at one time, but if we will open our hearts to receive His instructions, He will write it line by line and precept by precept. And He has given us His Holy Spirit to enable us to do that which we can’t do in our own strength.
And we have the Blood of Yeshua to cleanse us when we fail.
If you witness to what I have written in this booklet, you may want to talk to our Heavenly Father about it …….
Father in Heaven, I come to you today in the Name of Your Son Yeshua.
I agree with what I have just read and I acknowledge I have been reading Your Word with Greek glasses on. Abba, I ask for your forgiveness today, and I call on the Blood of Yeshua to wash me and cleanse me of having the wrong perspective of You, of Yeshua, of the Church, of Israel and of Your Torah.
Open my eyes so that I can see the wonders of Your Torah (Psalm 119:18)
I repent and I ask the Holy Spirit to enable me to see with Hebraic glasses and help me to see all of the issues in this booklet from a correct Biblical perspective. Help me to love your Torah and to do the best I can to live by your instructions.
I open my heart to You today and I invite you to begin to write your Torah on my heart.
I thank you and I love you …… In Yeshua’s Name I pray, AMEN.
Appendix 1 How do we apply our new Hebrew glasses?
Let us begin to call God by His real name. We can use any of the following names, and people will have no doubt which God we are talking about …
Yehovah or Yahvey (YHVH)
or The God of Israel
or The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
Let us refer to Jesus as Yeshua the Messiah, or even better use His true Hebrew name – Yeshua ha Mashiach. Lets be sure we see Him as a Jewish Messiah
3. The Church
We need to see ourselves as one in the Olive Tree, fellow citizens with the Jewish people. Let us stop speaking about “us and them” when talking about Israel and the Church and just say “us or we.”
Let us be sure to guard our minds and hearts from being turned against Israel by the lies and deception of the news media and Replacement Theology preachers. We need to appreciate Israel for the miracle and blessing that it is.
When we hear other people wrongly putting Israel down, we need to rise up indignantly, but in love, and correct the people involved.
If we want to be blessed by the God of Israel, He tells us in Genesis 12:3 that if we bless Israel, He will bless us.
The best way to bless Israel and the Jewish people is to …..
- Stand with Israel as the world comes against her
- Defend the Jewish people’s right to live in the land that God promised to Abraham in Genesis 15:18
- Most importantly pray and intercede for the protection of the nation, for the Jewish people to return to the land, and the salvation of the people
5. The Torah
How do we begin to live by the Torah?
As well as continuing to be the best ambassadors of Messiah Yeshua by being good living Christians and treating every person we encounter as Yeshua would, we can begin to do the following:
1. Endeavour to become more like Yeshua every day in every way
2. Acknowledge the Shabbat on the 7th day (Sunset Friday / Saturday)
3. Begin to study about and follow the annual Feast cycle
4. Eat a Biblical diet as best we can
5. Follow the Torah hygiene instructions
Appendix 2 Responding to Objections
Here are some common objections and Biblical responses to the most common negative responses to the subject of the Torah …..
“we are not under the law but under grace!” The Torah is not law but instructions from our loving Creator and Heavenly Father, for the best life we can live now and forever.
We don’t obey Torah to be saved, we obey Torah because we are being saved by our Father in Heaven and we love Him and trust Him.
The Apostle Paul said in Galatians 3 that “if we try to keep the Torah we are under a curse.” That can not be what he was saying because the Apostle lived by the Torah until he died. In Acts 28:17 Paul stated “that he did not break one of the customs or traditions of his people.”
All Christians need to do is keep the 4 ordinances in Acts 15:20 If we read verses 19–21, the council decided not to require any more of the new Believers, because the Torah (Moses) is preached in the Synagogues every Shabbat. In those days there were no churches. Everyone including the non Jewish Believers attended the Synagogue.
Jesus abolished the food restrictions in the Torah. In Matthew 5:27 Yeshua strongly stated that “He did not come to abolish anything in the Torah.”
In Acts 10, God gave Peter the vision to show him that all animals can be eaten. The entire passage is not about food but about people. God was showing Peter that he could take the Gospel to the Gentiles. See Acts 10:28 no person is unclean
In 1 Timothy 4:4–5 the Bible says that everything created by God is good and not to be rejected. The verse actually goes on to say that food is made holy by the Word of God and prayer. Nowhere in the Bible do we read that the list of clean and unclean animals has changed. The Word of God has not changed.
What about Mark 7:18 “Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, as it does not enter his heart, but his stomach, and is expelled. Thus He declared all foods clean.”
This verse is a perfect example of how Greek thinkers have manipulated the thinking of the Church. Thus He declared all foods clean is not in the original text.

Appendix 3 The Anti-Torah History of the ‘Church’
Most adherence to the Torah disappeared from the ‘Church’ after 135AD, when Romans and Greeks (who were anti-Semites) began to be seen as the ‘the church fathers.’
Facts of the Early ‘Church’
* Initially, the first Believers were Jewish until the Apostle Paul specifically targeted Gentiles (Acts 13:44-48).
* They did not see themselves as separate from Israel or Judaism – more like a sect.
* They attended the Temple (Acts 2:46) and also met in the synagogues, kept the Sabbath, the Feasts, the dietary laws and they fully lived as Jews according to Torah. Acts 21:20 …….. You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are who believe, and they are all zealous of the Law. The only real difference was that they acknowledged Yeshua as the Messiah.
* The non-Jewish converts to the Messianic faith attended the synagogues as there were no Christian churches in those days.
* They embraced the standards of Judaism and the teachings of the Hebrew Scriptures as that was the only Word of God they had – the New Testament did not yet exist – because it was primarily Paul who wrote it.
* In those days the main issue was what to do with non-Jews who were accepting Yeshua (Acts 15 Council meeting). The Apostle Paul addresses these issues in his letters to the Galatians, Ephesians, Colossians and the Corinthians.
* The Believers were first called ‘Christians’ in Antioch – Acts 11:26). This was a name created to be an insult not a compliment.
How the Falling Away Began
During the 1st and 2nd centuries, life was not easy for the Jewish nor the non-Jewish Believers. The Messianic Jews were rejected and ostracized for their faith in Yeshua. The non-Jews were often unwelcome in the synagogues and began to feel cut off from both the Jewish world and the Gentile world. Soon all Believers were expelled from synagogues. That is when the fellowship of Believers started to meet together.
The Romans resented the non-Jewish Believers as they appeared to be just like the Jews who they already hated, and unleashed vicious persecution against the Believers, and imposed cruel taxes on them. It was becoming very difficult to be associated with Israel and the Jewish people.
By the beginning of the 2nd Century, most of the first generation of Believers had died and anti-Jewish sentiment was now so strong in the Church that the non-Jews no longer wanted to be associated with the Jewish Believers in any way.
Soon the non-Jewish Believers decided that they had replaced the Jews as the true Israel of God – that God was forever finished with the Jewish people who were now accursed and doomed to eternal damnation.
After the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD and the exile of the Jewish people to the nations around the year 130 AD, the Jewish gospel also went into exile and, as the Jewish leadership of the Church declined, Romans & Greeks took over the leadership.
Most of the men who are seen as the Church Fathers were previously disciples of Plato, Socrates and other Greek philosophers. Most of them hated Israel and the Jewish people. Men like Ignatius, Origen, Justyn Martyr, Marcion and John Crystostom.
They began to teach what we today call Replacement Theology – that because the majority of the Jewish people rejected Yeshua, God had rejected them, and now the Church was the true Israel, or the New Israel of God. They left the curses for the Jews and took the blessings and promises for the New Israel.
They taught that the Torah had been superceded by the New Testament laws and that the Sabbath, the Feasts were now obsolete.
What Some of The ‘Church Fathers’ Said
The men who theologians call the Church Fathers are imposters. The true New Testament Church Fathers were the 1st Century Jewish Apostles. The original Church Fathers are Abraham, Isaac & Jacob, the Patriarchs of the Jewish people, because as we saw in an earlier image, the true Church was grafted into Israel and became the seed of Abraham (Galations 3:29). Apart from being imposters, the so called the ‘Church Fathers’ were also rabid anti-Semites. They hated the Jewish people with a vengeance. Let us look at some of the terrible things they said about the Jews …..
* Ignatius the Bishop of Antioch: Let us therefore no longer keep the Sabbath after the Jewish manner ….. Not in relaxation nor eating food prepared the day before, not finding delight in dancing and clapping which have no sense.
* Justyn Martyr (2nd Century) stated in his letter to a Greek Jew named Trypho: God gave the Jews the Torah as punishment for their exceptional wickedness and because of His special hatred of the Jewish people. We too would observe your Sabbath days and Festivals if we were not aware of the reason they were imposed upon you, namely because of your wickedness and hard hearts.
* Marcion: taught that the Jesus of the New Testament had defeated and even unseated the evil God of the Jews. Therefore the Old Testament should be completely rejected.
Appendix 4 What Part Can We Play ?
Let us take a look at what we can do practically to fulfill God’s call to the Church to co-labour with Him as He completes the restoration of Israel.
1/ Prayer and Intercession
We are all branches grafted into the trunk of the olive tree – ISRAEL. Most of the natural branches are still broken off and lying spiritually dead on the ground. The Church has been predominantly made up of the grafted in branches for nearly 1900 years, and has been either looking upwards waiting to see the Lord coming back or looking sideways at each other, but almost never looking back down the tree upon which they sit. If they would look down they would see the arch enemy of Israel (and the Church) standing at the base of the trunk, with an axe, trying to chop the tree down. If the tree falls, the natural branches and the grafted in branches die.
We have the luxury of knowing the end of the story, that the OLIVE TREE survives, but it is up to us to pray towards that end. Only the natural Jewish branches who believe in Yeshua, and the grafted in Gentile branches are in a covenantal position with God to be able to do that!!! The Lord is looking for a church of Elijahs, to pray and intercede, to weep between the porch and the altar, to cry out “spare your people, O Lord!”
We all know the story of the Prodigal Son. Now it is the elder brother who is the prodigal. The younger brother, the Church, has been living in the house of the Father while the elder brother, the Jewish people, have been out there squandering their wonderful
inheritance. But the Father wants his older son to come home to Him. He is waiting to see Israel running up the path towards His house. Don’t you think it would please the Father to see His other son, the Church searching the highways and byways of this world looking for his brother, to gently pick him up and bring him home. What a day that will be – it will be LIFE FROM THE DEAD.
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
It is time for all believers to be obedient to this scripture and begin to make serious efforts to share the Gospel with the Jewish people. This needs to be applied at a personal level, at congregational level and at the evangelistic organisational level.
I am not suggesting that you go and stand on a soapbox outside the local synagogue with your Bible. The Jewish people have been verbally and physically abused enough for 2000 years in the name of Yeshua. Pray for divine appointments and make the most of them. Learn how to be effective in witnessing to Jewish people. Please feel free to request a copy of our teaching Helpful Tips for Jewish Evangelism.
If you live by or work with Jewish people, pray for them, be a good friend to them, take every opportunity to share your experiences about the God of Israel with them. Gently and lovingly bring them home to the Father’s house. Tell them their Abba in Heaven loves them and is waiting for them to come home to Him. But they also need to hear that the only way to do this is through repentance and by inviting Yeshua to be their Lord and Saviour. Share Old Testament scriptures that talk about God’s love for the Jewish people and the verses that clearly point to Yeshua as Messiah.
3/ Political Solidarity – Ruths and Esthers
Ruth was a non-Jew who became closely connected to the Jewish people. She dedicated her life to take care of Naomi, the Jewish woman.
Queen Esther discovered that the Jewish people were in serious trouble. At the risk of severe punish-ment she arose and declared that she would go to the king and if she perished in doing so, she was still going to do so.
As modern Israel faces increasing political pressure to give away parts of the Promised Land, we need as many Ruths and Esthers as possible. We need the voice of Believers to be heard by the politicians and media declaring that Israel is not illegally occupying anyone else’s land. It is actually God’s land and He promised it to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob’s descendants, the Jewish people as an everlasting covenanted inheritance.
If you hear people telling lies about Israel or putting Israel down, then stand up, be an Esther, and boldly tell them the truth.
4/ Financial assistance
If you are not Jewish, but you have been saved by the blood of the Jewish Messiah, then the following verse is speaking to you.
Romans 15:27 It pleased them indeed, and they are their debtors. For if the Gentiles have been partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister to them in material things.
Derek Prince says in his book ‘Who Owns the Land’, “How much spiritual inheritance would any of the rest of the nations have with-out Israel? Exactly nothing! We are all debtors to the Jewish people. GOD says there are ways we will have to pay back the debt.”
Clearly God expects the Church to support the Jewish people in material ways. Right now Israel needs your help as never before. They can use clothing, furniture etc. and/or financial assistance to help meet the needs of our Jewish brethren going home. If you are willing to be obedient to the word of God, may I suggest that you contact the International Christian Embassy, Christian Friends of Israel, or Prayer For Israel representatives in your country. Remember, those who bless Israel will be blessed themselves. (Genesis 12:3)
I believe that the Lord also desires that we sow financially into the spiritual restoration of the Jewish people. You will read in chapter 16 of my book A Slow Train Coming, how Christians should be blessing Israel financially.
If we all simply rise up and fulfil the purpose that God has destined for us, then the times of restoration will be completed and the Lord will then be able to answer our cry of ..……….
“ Maranatha ” ( come Yeshua).
