David’s Comment: The Final Fall Celebration – ‘Simchat Torah’ (The Joy of the Torah)
Psalm 19:7 The TORAH of YHVH is perfect, restoring the soul
We are now almost at the end of the final Moed (Feast) of the LORD – Succott or the Feast of Tabernacles. Succott ends at sunset of the 7th day which is next Sunday evening, however the next day is also a Holy festival called Simchat Torah or the Joy of the Torah. Just the name of this festival tells us that the Jewish people who love YHVH have a very different attitude towards the Torah than the majority of Christians have. For almost 2000 years non Jewish believers in the Jewish Messiah (Yeshua / Jesus) have declared “We are not under the law, but we are under grace !” thus rejecting the ‘Maker’s’ Manual for the best life we can enjoy while alive on Planet Earth.
The Greek sighted Church calls it ‘the law’ but the Hebrew word is Torah, which more accurately means ‘instructions’ and King David summed it up nicely when he said in Psalm 19:7 The Torah of YHVH is perfect restoring the soul. And David continues all through Psalm 119, to express the love for the Torah of YHVH, that every person who claims to love GOD also ought to have David’s attitude towards the Torah which is reflected in the Jewish celebration of Simchat Torah. The reason behind this special day is that the annual reading cycle of the Torah scroll has come to its end and the scroll is rolled back to the beginning, and the reading cycle begins again. Not everyone of course, but many of the religious Jews love the Word of GOD so much that to start reading again from Genesis is a cause to rejoice. In every synagogue in Israel and around the world on Simchat Torah, the Torah scroll is taken out and rolled back to the start and is carried around the sanctuary. Many people will reach out to touch the scroll and then kiss their hand that touched the Word of GOD. If this is done only for the sake of tradition, then it just a religious act, but we believe that the majority of Jews who do love the LORD, do this because they really are grateful and appreciative that the Creator of the Universe, the GOD of Israel, had the grace to give us his Torah – instructions to help us live the best life we can while on Earth. I have seen people with tears of joy in their eyes as the Torah scroll is carried around the sanctuary. In Jerusalem at the Western Wall on Simchat Torah you will see Orthodox Jewish men carrying the scrolls around and dancing with great joy and fervor.
My point is this – if Jewish people who don’t have the Holy Spirit living inside of them can have the right attitude to the Torah, then why do most Christians want to have nothing to do with it ? Why is it that most non – Jews want to have nothing to do with the Creator’s manual for life ? Do we really believe that YHVH being a GOD of grace means that He doesn’t care if His sons and daughters choose to ignore His instructions, many times causing sickness and grief in their lives and in the lives of their families ?
If we truly are living in the End Times as many believe, then the Restoration of Israel which must be fufilled before Heaven will release Yeshua to return to Jerusalem, (Acts 3:21), must surely be followed by the Restoration of the ‘Church’ back to the days of signs, wonders and miracles being the ‘norm’ rather than the exception.. In that case, now must surely be the time for the appreciation and love of the Torah to be restored to every Born-again Christian. In fact the Torah is the very essence of the New Covenant – Jeremiah 31:31 behold the days are coming says YHVH, that I will make a New Covenant …….. I will write my Torah in their hearts.
I believe that I am called as a Messianic Levite to be teaching these things to the Nations as an End Time ministry. Isaiah 2:2-3 It shall come to pass in the latter days that the Torah shall go forth from Zion. Josie and I, and a steadily growing number of Believers around the world sense that the LORD desires that the entire Body of Messiah would celebrate all of His Moedim, as well as Simchat Torah, in Spirit and in Truth, and be able to declare along with King David in Psalm 19:7 The TORAH of YHVH is perfect, restoring the soul. We pray that this comment will inspire you to also see the Torah in a new light and that the Holy Spirit will speak to your heart and confirm that what I have written is truly from our Father in Heaven.

1. Israel Blames Syria for Downing of Russian Air Force Plan Times of Israel News Sept 21
Israeli Defense Minister Liberman on Thursday blamed ?irresponsible and unprofessional? Syrian air defense operators for downing a Russian surveillance plane during an Israeli airstrike on Monday night. Liberman maintained, during an interview on Army Radio, that despite Russia?s ire over the incident, Israel would continue to operate in Syria in order to fight Iran?s activities in the country. ?We will do everything, everything that is required, in order to defend the security of Israeli citizens. On this issue we have no other alternative,? Liberman said. The defense minister denied that Israel was responsible for the downing of the plane, but said he understood Russia?s initial anger at the Jewish state over the affair. ?You don?t judge someone who?s in mourning, and we have expressed our condolences. I spoke with the Russian defense minister, naturally I can understand their mood at that time,? Liberman said. I accept the Russian president?s description that this was a tragic accident, but the person who is responsible for this tragic accident is Syrian dictator Assad?s army,? the defense minister said. ?There is a military there, air defenses, irresponsible and unprofessional people who appear to have acted after the [Israeli] air force planes were already in the airspace of the State of Israel. They only opened fire out of a sense of obligation,? Liberman said. IDF Chief of Staff Eisenkot joined the defense minister in expressing condolences over the deaths of the 15 crew members aboard the Russian plane. Pray that Israel will continue to act as necessary to deal with any threat from inside Syria
2. Russia to Supply Syria with Advanced Missile Systems Times of Israel News Sept 24th
The Russian defense ministry said Monday that President Putin will outfit the Syrian military with its sophisticated S-300 air defense system and jam radars of military planes striking from off the coast of the Mediterranean, in the wake of the downing of a Russian spy plane by Syrian air defenses during an Israeli strike last week. A Kremlin spokesman said the incident was caused by ?premeditated? actions by Israeli pilots, warning that this will harm relations between the two countries. ?According to information of our military experts, the reason (behind the downing) were premeditated actions by Israeli pilots which certainly cannot but harm our relations.” Russia’s Defense Minister said in a televised statement that the incident ?has pushed us to adopt adequate response measures directed at boosting the security of Russian troops? in Syria. [Russia will] transfer the modern S-300 air defense system to the Syrian armed forces within two weeks,? he said. President Putin has ordered several measures in response to the incident, the defense ministry said. Pray that the tensions between Israel and Russia
3. Hamas Ceases Indirect Peace Talks and Threatens Increased Violence Times of Israel News Sept 24th
Gaza?s Hamas rulers said on Sunday that their indirect negotiations to reach a long-term ceasefire agreement with Israel have halted and vowed to step up the violent protests along the border. Hamas officials blamed the impasse on the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority, which has voiced its strong opposition to the Egypt-brokered talks. In response, the Gaza terrorist group was escalating its protests in new locations along Gaza?s borders with Israel. In the wake of the announcement, more than a thousand Gazans gathered at the border for a rare night-time protest, burning tires and clashing with IDF troops. The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry said one person was killed and 11 injured by IDF fire. The IDF said it had spotted a cell about to launch fire balloons into Israel and targeted them with fire from an aircraft. The air force usually fires warning shots at the balloon cells. Last weekend that saw over a dozen fires sparked in southern Israel by incendiary balloons launched over the border from the Gaza Strip. This week has seen an increase in the cross-border arson attacks, following several weeks of relative quiet along the border, that coincided with the talks aimed at ending the violence that began in March with a series of protests along the border that were dubbed the ?March of Return.? The clashes, which Israel says are being orchestrated by Gaza?s Hamas rulers, have regularly included rioting, attacks on Israeli troops and attempts to infiltrate and sabotage the border fence. Pray that the IDF will respond with full force against anyone planning to harm Israeli citizens or property.
4. Thousands Attend Annual Feast of Tabernacles Priestly Blessing at Western Wall INN News Sept 26th
On Wednesday morning, the traditional Priestly Blessing took place in Western Wall Plaza in Jerusalem. Thousands of Jews and hundreds of Kohanim (from the priestly tribe) from around Israel and around the world are already at the Wall. US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman also attended the event. Ambassador Friedman said, “It is a great privilege to be a Kohen and to have the opportunity to bless the Nation of Israel from the Western Wall. This is my third time as Ambassador at Birkat Kohanim (the Priestly Blessing) and each time gets more exciting and meaningful.” The command to bless the Jewish people and the words of the blessing are found in the Bible (Numbers 6: 22-27). Two tiny silver amulets containing scrolls on which parts of the blessing were written were found in a 7th century B.C.E. burial site in Jerusalem in 1979.
5. Gaza Violence on the Increase Again Israel Today News Sept 26th
The beginning of the Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles) biblical holiday was sadly marred by numerous fires across southern Israel. The blazes, which destroyed agricultural land and nature reserves, were caused by flaming kites and balloons carrying incendiary devices launched by Palestinian Arabs in the adjacent Gaza Strip. Firefighters were battling at least nine serious fires in southern Israel at the start of this week. Over the holiday, Gaza’s Hamas rulers declared that indirect ceasefire talks with Israel had stalled, and that the terror group would in response escalate the unrest along the Gaza security fence. Palestinian rioters gathered at the fence on Monday and hurled stones, Molotov cocktails and explosive devices at the Israeli soldiers stationed there. A number of attempts were made to breach the barrier and enter southern Israel. Israeli forces responded with both live fire and crowd dispersal techniques. Hamas sources claimed that at least one Palestinian rioter had been killed, and dozens more wounded. Pray that the IDF is able to bring all violence under control without injuries being to either side
