David’s Comment: Back to Biblical Basics    (Repeat)
Introduction: The Bible (Latin: Biblio) is a collection of 66 books inspired by the Spirit of God and written down by the men He selected to do so. We must remember that most of the Bible was written down 2000 to 3000 years ago by Jews for Jews, and is primarily about Israel and the Jewish people. The Bible is absolutely relevant for every person, no matter what his or her racial background or the time in which they live. However to understand the Bible and glean truth from it, it must be read with a Hebraic mindset, not a Greek mindset, which sadly has not been the case for the last 1900 years. In his book, Clash of the Kingdoms, Bible translator and teacher Victor Schlatter wrote  …  Unfortunately, most Westerners, and much of the presumed Bible-believing,  Christianity within the Western World?have become such scrambled eggs of syncretism into a Hellenistic lifestyle that they are oblivious to the fact that their train has long ago whistled past their station. Sadly, the next stop is not exactly where they had intended to get offI believe that is a very true and very serious statement for many people today.

After almost 2000 years of a Greek based understanding of the Bible, we have a situation today where much of the Christian world has little, or a wrong understanding of the Scriptures, leading to much of the Church being disinterested in Israel, or even standing against Israel’s right to the Promised Land,  This also leads to the tolerance and even support of same sex relationships, even in Church leadership. The return of Yeshua to set up God’s Kingdom is not far off and it is time for a change. It is time for a Paradigm Shift in the way we read and understand the Bible. To rightly divide the Word of God and discover Biblical truth we need to read the Bible in the correct context.  As I said earlier it is written by Jews about Israel and the Jewish people. Unless we read it in that light we can never know the real meaning of what we are reading. For instance, the passage about giving someone a cup of cold water or washing someone’s feet is only relevant if the reader understands the rigors of walking a long distance in the dust and heat of the Middle East.  Another example is, that unless a person understands the Jewish celebration of Passover, it is unlikely that he or she can understand the deeper relevance of the Lord’s Supper or Communion.

Over the next few weeks I will be focusing on the basic but very important issues on which we must base our Bibilical understanding and interpretation.   In this article we will look at who the God of the Bible is  ……………  Who am I to describe YHVH  –  I will let His Word do that:

Pt 1 – Who is the God of the Bible ?
His name in Hebrew is spelt  Yud Hey Vav Hey or YHVH – (LORD in English Bibles). Because there are no vowels in the ancient scrolls, we can not be sure how that is pronounced. It is most probably Yehovah or Yahvey.

YHVH is the One and Only Creator of everything that has, is and will ever exist  Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob   Acts 3:13   The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob  …….
is the God of Israel  Exodus 5:1   Afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, “Thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘Let My people go.  (In German and Swedish Bibles    it is written that YHVH is Israel’s God)
YHVH is the God and Father of Yeshua the Messiah    Romans 15:6 …… the God and Father of our Lord Yeshau the messiah
is a covenant making God     Gen 6:18  But I will establish My covenant with you
is a covenant keeping God   Deuteronomy 7:9  Therefore know that the LORD your God,  is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and  mercy for  thousand generations
is our Father in Heaven          Matthew 5:16  Our Father in Heaven
is a loving God                        Deut 7:7-8  The LORD did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you
were the least of all peoples; “but because the LORD loves you
is a merciful God                    1 Chr 16:34  Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.
is a forgiving God                   Num 14:18  The LORD is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression
hates a mixture
YHVH never changes                        Mal 3:6  “For I am the LORD, I do not change;
is a God of war                      Exod 15:3  The LORD is a man of war; the LORD is His name.
is a God of hate                     Zech 8:17    For all these are things that I hate,’ says the LORD.”
is a God of judgement          1 Sam 2:10  The LORD will judge the ends of the earth.
is a God of wrath                   Deut 29:23   which the LORD overthrew in His anger and His wrath.’
is a consuming fire and a jealous God  Deut 4:24  For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

Like it or not the God of the Bible is all of the above and more. Yes He is a loving Father, but He is also a consuming fire. Let Hebrews chapter 12 have the last word on this subject  Hebrews 12:28-29   Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.  (NKJ)

And one more very important thing  ……   YHVH  is NOT the Allah of the Koran

Part 2 next week   …………  What is a Covenant ?

The LORD bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist on the land given to the Jewish people by the God of Israel.  Lets pray that Israel will turn back to their God.  Do not be silent, but share this with your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to speak to. Lets also pray for that breakthrough to the Muslims, and please remember to pray Divine protection for all of the soldiers in the IDF.

Shabbat Shalom ……  David & Josie

1. Incident Involving Israeli Air Force Jets and Syrian Missile Battery  INN News   Oct 16th

A Syrian surface-to-air missile battery opened fire on Israeli aircraft flying over southern Lebanon. In response to the attack, Israeli Air Force planes returned fire, destroying the surface-to-air missile battery which had attacked them. According to a report, Israeli fighters dropped four bombs on the SA-5 missile battery. The Syrian missile battery opened fire on the IAF planes while they on a routine reconnaissance mission over southern Lebanon. Israeli officials say the IDF notified the Russian military regarding the air operation and engagement with the missile battery before IAF planes opened fire. No Israeli casualties were reported, and no IAF planes were damaged. “We hold the Syrian regime responsible for the anti-aircraft fire and any attack originating from Syria,” said IDF spokesperson Jonathan Conricus. The IDF added that it views the IAF response as an isolated incident following the Syrian provocation, and that Israel is not seeking to escalate tensions with the Assad regime. “We’re prepared for any possibility,” said IDF spokesman Ronen Manelis. “This was a Syrian provocation, and we will not allow it. On the other hand, we have no intention of escalating.” Pray that this incident does not escalate into a new conflict on the northern border.

2. Arab Terrorist  Attempted to  Blowup Israeli Courthouse

A Palestinian terrorist attempted to blow up a military court in Samaria on Sunday, but Israeli forces securing the compound were successful in thwarting the attack. The terrorist arrived at the courthouse and when he attempted to enter the compound the metal detector went off.  A search of his clothing revealed he was carrying a pipe bomb. The court was shut down, while sappers were alerted to the scene and safely dismantled the explosive charge. The foiled terrorist attack occurred against the backdrop of a newly hatched Palestinian ?unity? pact between warring factions Fatah and the Hamas terrorist organization. Among the sticking points in the agreement are demands that Hamas cease it?s direction of violent attacks against Israelis. Lets thank the LORD that this potential attack was a total failure.

3. PM Netanyahu Praises US Withdrawl from UNESCO    World Israel News    Oct 14th

PM Netanyahu praised the US withdrawal from UNESCO as a ?courageous and ethical decision,? adding that Israel will also leave the organization. The State Department announced its withdrawal from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on Thursday, citing ?continuing anti-Israel bias? among the reasons. ?This decision was not taken lightly, and reflects U.S. concerns with mounting arrears at UNESCO, the need for fundamental reform in the organization, and continuing anti-Israel bias at UNESCO,? State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement. ?This is a courageous and ethical decision because UNESCO has become a theater of the absurd and instead of preserving history, distorts it,? Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated. He has instructed the Foreign Ministry to prepare Israel?s withdrawal from UNESCO in parallel with the US, the Prime Minister?s Office said in a press statement. ?In recent years, UNESCO has transformed itself into a delusional organization that lost its professional path in favor of the political interests of certain countries,? said Israel?s representative Carmel Shama-Hacohen.
Pray that Israel will got through with its decision to leave UNESCO

4.  Saudi Arabia Agrees With Israel & USA in Regards to Iran Deal        United with Israel News  Oct 17th

Saudi Arabia joined Israel in supporting President Trump?s decertification of the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, formally known as the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action). The official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that King Salman called the US president on Saturday and praised the administration for recognizing the threat Iran posed to the region and for acting to stop it. ?The Kingdom backs and welcomes the firm strategy on Iran and its aggressive policy,? the SPA said in a statement. This was remarkably similar to the words used by Prime Minister Netanyahu on Friday, when he said in an English-language video, ?I congratulate President Trump for his courageous decision today. He boldly confronted Iran’s terrorist regime.? PM Netanyahu has denounced the Iranian nuclear deal to every world leader he has met over the last two years, warning that if the deal isn?t fixed, the Islamist regime will have nuclear weapons shortly after the sunset clauses in the JCPOA come into effect in just a few years? time. Saudi Arabia has for years accused Iran of ?destabilizing? the Arab world. In the short term, what most worries the Kingdom is Iran?s critical backing of the Assad regime over the last six years of war in Syria, and its support of the Houtkis in Yemeh, who have been fighting Saudi-backed government forces there since 2015. The subsequent inflow of hundreds of millions of dollars has allowed Iran to advance the development of its long-range ballistic missile program and greatly increase its support of terrorist entities such as Hezbollah and other Shiite forces in the region. The United Arab Emirates and Bahrain followed the Saudis in expressing their support as well for the new US policy. Pray that other world leaders will wake up tp the folly of the Iran nuclear deal.

5. Mexican President Thanks Israel for Earthquake Assistance    Jerusalem Post   Oct 16th

Mexican President Nieto thanked PM Netanyahu during a telephone call on Tues. 10 Oct. 2017, for the Israeli search and rescue team sent to Mexico City last month following the devastating earthquake there. Nieto expressed appreciation for the way in which Israel quickly mobilized and sent the team to help deal with the after-effects of the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that killed more than 300 people. The earthquake hit on 19 September and the Israeli team was the first foreign group to give assistance, arriving on the scene just two days later. The team was made up of some 71 soldiers from the army?s Home Front Command. It focused on trying to extricate trapped survivors and on surveying public buildings to determine whether they needed to be demolished after the earthquake or were still structurally sound. When PM Netanyahu greeted the team upon its return on 28 Sept. 2017, he told the soldiers they were ?the long arm of Israel, the long humanitarian arm that reaches around the world, across thousands of kilometers, and you show the true face of the State of Israel.?

7. New Excavation Refute Claims by Christian Author that the Temple Mount is not the Location of the 2 Temples       Israel Antiquities Authority

Excavations conducted by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), have uncovered large portions of courses of the Western Wall that have been hidden for 1,700 years. In addition, an ancient Roman theater-like structure was exposed for the first time. The stone courses and the amazing remnants of the theater were presented at a press conference held Monday morning beneath the Tunnels’ Wilson?s Arch.  Eight stone courses of the Western Wall buried under an 8-meter layer of earth were recently uncovered in the Western Wall Tunnels thanks to excavations conducted by the IAA. These stone courses, completely preserved, are built of massive stones and are outstanding in the quality of their construction. Apparently, a great deal was invested in the construction of the theater which contained approximately 200 seats. Wilson?s Arch is in fact the only intact, visible structure remaining from the Temple Mount compound of the Second Temple period. The arch, built of enormous stones, is the last of a series of such arches that once constituted a gigantic bridge leading to the Temple Mount from the west. The arch stands high above the foundations of the Western Wall, and it served, among other purposes, as a passageway for people entering the Temple Mount compound and the Temple. A huge aqueduct also passed over the arch.
