David’s Comment: Back to Biblical Basics Pt. 3 – Who Is Yeshua ?
John 1:1-3   In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.  (NKJ)

Over the centuries there has been, and continues to be much discussion, often leading to arguments and worse, over the exact relationship of YHVH and Yeshua. This is a very controversial subject and we need to let the Bible be the only source of where we search for the truth. In this article I am not attempting to make a concrete statement of who Yeshua truly is, as I am not qualified to do that and nor is anyone else, because we Humans simply can not comprehend exactly what GOD is. It is very difficult to explain Him for He is a mystery, and the incarnation of Yeshua as the Son of GOD is also a mystery. The word which is used many times in the Hebrew Bible for GOD is the word Elohim, which is the plural form of Eloha. Elohim can mean masters, judges, nobles, high or exalted ones which does describe YHVH ( the Creator of the Universe), but YHVH is much more than the meaning of Elohim. I dont think we have a word to adequately describe who or what YHVH is  – in any language. It will most probably remain a mystery until we enter into His Kingdom.

The Bible does give us a many descriptions of who Yeshua is. I will leave it to the Word and the Holy Spirit to lead you to the truth. Please keep in mind that all Bibles have less than perfect translations of certain words. Some translations, such as the Message, are only paraphrases and should not be regarded as equal to a literal translation. I believe that one of the most accurate New Testament versions is the ESV version and I want to recommend that you use this version to check what I am saying in my Back to Biblical Basics series. You can also look at the Pershitta Aramiac Bible.

So who is the person most people call Jesus ?  His real name is YESHUA in Hebrew. The meaning of that Hebrew name is Salvation. Now lets look at the two pictures that the Bible presents of who Yeshua is   ……………

Picture # 1    Yeshua is the Son of God  but He is not absolutely equal to the Father ……
John 14:28  My Father is greater than I  (Yeshua’s own words) (NKJ)
John 5:19 So Yeshua said to them, “truly I can do nothing of my own accord …….. “ (NKJ)
Hebrews 1:1 – 2  God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;  (NKJ)
Hebrews 1:4 – 5  For to which of the angels did He ever say: “You are My Son, today I have begotten You”? And again: “I will be to Him a Father, and He shall be to Me a Son”?

In almost every New Testament reference to the Father and Yeshua, there seems to be a separation between the Father and the Son    ………….
Galations 1:1   Paul, an apostle not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead  (NKJ)
1 Thessalonians 1:1  To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: (NKJ)
Ephesians 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, (NKJ)
1 Timothy 1:2   To Timothy, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.

Picture #2    Yeshua is Divine and possesses all of the characteristics and qualities (niddot in Hebrew) of the Father. He is the manifestation of God in the flesh.
John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word (Memra in Aramaic), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. (NKJ)
Col 1:15-19 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.  And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, (NKJ)
Hebrews  1:3   who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person  (NKJ)

There are some verses that seem to refer to Yeshua as God
John 20:27-28  Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”   And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” (NKJ)
Hebews 1:8-10  But to the Son He says: “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your Kingdom.  Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions.” (NKJ)
In Zechariah chapter 12, verse 8 begins with the LORD  (Hebrew YHVH) so it is definately speaking about the Father. in verse 10 YHVH says that He will pour out the spirit of grace and supplication, but then YHVH goes on to say that they will look upon ME who they pierced (NKJ)
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (NKJ)
This verse seems to me to clearly say that a human baby is born, but the names that are then used to describe the Son are all references to YHVH.

Other Descriptions of Yeshua

He is seated at the right hand of the Father
Hebrews 1:3  when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, (NKJ)
Hebrews 8:1  Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, (NKJ)

Yeshua is the Lamb of God    John 1:29   “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (NKJ)

Yeshua is the only way to God
1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, (NKJ)
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (NKJ)

Yeshua is coming back to be King of Kings and Lord of Lords    Revelation 17:14

So what is my conclusion to the question Who is Yeshua ? I often use the example of a block of ice   ……..  apply some heat and you have ice and water.  Apply some more heat and you have ice, water and steam – three different elements but all from the exact same substance. One thing I can say with surety is that the GOD of Israel, the Creator of the Universe, is so powerful that He can manifest Himself or appear to human beings is any way, shape or form that He desires. There are many instances in the Bible where God appears to varies people in different forms.

Part 4 next week …………  What About the Trinity ?

The LORD bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist on the land given to the Jewish people by the God of Israel.  Lets pray that Israel will turn back to their God.  Do not be silent, but share this with your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to speak to. Lets also pray for that breakthrough to the Muslims, and please remember to pray Divine protection for all of the soldiers in the IDF.

Shabbat Shalom ……  David & Josie

3. Israel Blows Up Gaza Tunnels    INN News  Oct 31st

At least seven terrorists were killed when the IDF Southern Command destroyed a network of tunnels found near Khan Yunis in southern Gaza Monday afternoon. According to Gaza’s health ministry, Ahmed Abu Armanah, Omar al-Faleet, and Misbah Shubir, was killed in the explosion which destroyed the terror tunnels. A senior figure in the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization was reportedly killed in the blast. Armanah and al-Faleet were members of Islamic Jihad. The Hamas terrorist organization, which rules the Gaza Strip, said Shubir was a member of Hamas’ armed wing, as was another person who was killed in the explosion. Twelve other people were reportedly injured. IDF spokesman Jonathan Conricus said the tunnel network in question crossed the border from Gaza into pre-1967 Israel. The IDF neutralized a terror tunnel leading into southern Israel from the vicinity of Khan Yunis.” The tunnel was detonated from within Israel, close to the security fence. The (IDF’s) actions are in light of this grave and unacceptable violation of Israeli sovereignty.” The tunnel extended deep into pre-1967 sovereign Israeli territory, and thus posed a serious security threat to Israel. The IDF responded by destroying the tunnel, setting off an explosion in the tunnel as close as possible to the Gaza border, approximately one kilometer (0.6 miles) from the town of Kissufim. Additional units will be sent to the area as a precaution against further security incidents.  Pray that these tunnels will not be rebuilt

4. Terror Tunnels Discovered Under UN Schools in Gaza    INN News   Oct 28th

Officials from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) discovered a Hamas terror tunnel underneath an UNRWA school recently, the organization reported on Sunday. The tunnel was found roughly two weeks ago, concealed by an UNRWA school in the Gaza Strip. A similar tunnel was discovered under another UNRWA facility earlier this year. ?The presence of a tunnel underneath an UNRWA installation, which enjoys inviolability under international law, is unacceptable. It places children and agency staff at risk,? UNRWA said in a statement. The Hamas terror organization has used terror tunnels in the past to smuggle weapons and equipment into the Gaza Strip, as well as to move terrorists and explosive devices into position near Israeli towns and army positions in preparation for attacks. UNRWA officials say that the school where the tunnel was found was immediately closed after the discovery, and remained shuttered for the next 10 days. It was reopened this past Wednesday. In June, another Hamas terror tunnel was discovered underneath two other Gaza schools operated by UNRWA. Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said the discovery was yet another example of Hamas using children as human shields to advance its efforts to harm Jews. ?We cannot accept a situation in which UNRWA schools are used as terror bases. This dangerous incident must not be ignored and strict oversight is needed to ensure that UN facilities are not used to protect terrorists,? the Ambassador continued. Pray that all terror tunnels in Gaza and on the Lebanon border are uncovered and destroyed

5. IDF Seals 10 Tunnels in Judea and Samaria    Times of Israel News   Oct 31st

The IDF sealed off 10 tunnels under the security barrier in Judea & Samaria near the city of Hebron, after dozens of Palestinians reportedly managed to illegally cross into Israeli territory through the passages over the past few weeks. Each of the tunnels, which were built to serve as drain pipes, was about 1.5 meters (five feet) in diameter and about 20 meters (65 feet) in length, allowing for people to easily cross through them, Israel Radio reported on Friday, 27 Oct. 2017. Last week, at least 100 Palestinians who crossed into Israeli territory via the massive drainage pipes carried out a series of agricultural thefts near Moshav Shekaf, in the Lachish region, stealing dozens of tons of produce according to the radio report. One can only be grateful that these drain pipes, which enabled entry, exit, and acts of theft on the part of Palestinians, were not used to carry out acts of terror as well. Continue to pray against all terrorist violence in Israel.

6. Israel to US: Together We Will Defeat Terrorism   World Israel News    Nov 1st

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent a message of condolence to President Donald Trump, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Wednesday following the Islamic terror attack in Manhattan which left eight people dead and 11 wounded. ?We stand with our friends in New York and all Americans following yet another horrible Islamist terror attack. We pray for the victims and their families,? Netanyahu stated. ?Together we will defeat this scourge? of terrorism, Netanyahu declared. Israel has a long and bitter history of contending with terrorists driving cars into crowds of people. Israel?s Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon expressed his condolences to US Ambassador Nikki Haley following the terror attack in New York.
?Just as the US has always stood by our side in our times of need, Israel will always stand with America in the fight against terror,? Danon stated. He conveyed Israel?s condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. Pray that the US will continue to work with Israel to combat the terrorists

7. Next War With Hezbollah Inevitable    World Israel News   Nov 1st

A war between Israel and the Hezbollah terror organization is inevitable and will likely be ?more violent and destructive? than the previous conflicts, according to a report by the High Level Military Group (HLMG), a think tank comprised of former senior defense officials. In the report, titled ?Hezbollah?s Terror Army: How to Prevent a Third Lebanon War,? the experts describe Hezbollah as being ?widely considered to be the most powerful non-state armed actor in the world.? The Iranian-backed terrorist organization, which is in complete political and military control of Lebanon, ?has the political clout of a government, the firepower of an army and the strategic approach of a terrorist organization,? according to their assessment. Hezbollah currently has a stockpile of over 130,000 rockets, more than the combined arsenal of all NATO countries, with the exception of the US, a June 2016 report said. Hezbollah?s rocket capabilities ?have increased tenfold since the 2006 war, and present a threat few countries, much less sub-state organizations, on the globe can mount,? the report says. Pray that Hebzollah has the good sense not to start a war with Israel
