David’s Comment: Back to Biblical Basics Pt. 5 – Who Is ‘Israel’ ?
The God of the Bible is the God of Israel. There can be no doubt about that as there are hundreds of verses which say that very clearly. However there is much confusion in the Body of Messiah as to what exactly ‘Israel’ means today. To be able to fully understand the verses which speak about Israel we need to be sure which Israel that particular verse is referring to. I have found five different applications of the word ‘Israel’ in the Scriptures …………..
Israel # 1 = the man Jacob who had his name changed to Israel after he wrestled with the angel Genesis 32:28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.” (NKJ)
Israel # 2 = the 12 tribes of Jacob – collectively called the ‘Jewish People’ today . Genesis 49:28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father spoke to them. And he blessed them; he blessed each one according to his own blessing. (NKJ)
Israel # 3 = the Land of Israel Ezekiel 7:2 “And you, son of man, thus says the Lord GOD to the land of Israel: ‘ The end has come upon the four corners of the land. (NKJ) The Land of Israel should occupy the territory from the Nile to the Euphrates Genesis 15:18 On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates-– (NKJ)
Israel # 4 = every Born Again person grafted into the Olive Tree Romans 11:17 And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, (NKJ) Ephesians 2:19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, (NKJ)
Israel # 5 = the yet future, but soon coming Kingdom of God this final meaning of Israel is prophetic as it is still yet to be fulfilled. However the modern state of Israel is the embryonic form of the coming Kingdom. Israel is still in her unperfected form, but the Creator of the Universe – the God of Israel is at work to fulfill His promise to restore His Kingdom to the Earth, and Jerusalem the undivided capital city of Israel # 3 is the location. Zechariah 8:3 “Thus says the LORD: ‘I will return to Zion, and dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called the City of Truth, the Mountain of the LORD of hosts, the Holy Mountain.’
Now when we read the Scriptures that speak about Israel, we can be sure that we know exactly which form of Israel is being spoken about and can thus more rightly divide the Word of the Lord.
One other important point concerning Israel. Zionism and Zionists get a lot of bad press these days, but the names ‘Israel’ and ‘Zion’ are interchangable – they mean exactly the same thing. Psalm 149:2 Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. (NKJ)
Lets continue to stand with and pray for Israel / Zion – #2, #3, #4 & especially #5
Next week: What is the “Church”
The LORD bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist on the land given to the Jewish people by the God of Israel. Lets pray that Israel will turn back to their God. Do not be silent, but share this with your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to speak to. Lets also pray for that breakthrough to the Muslims, and please remember to pray Divine protection for all of the soldiers in the IDF.
Shabbat Shalom …… David & Josie

1. Iran Builds Base in Syria 50 km’s from Israel Border World Israel News Nov 12th
Iran?s military is establishing a permanent base inside Syria. Citing a ?Western intelligence source,? the report says that the Iranian military has taken over a compound at a site used by the Syrian army outside El-Kiswah, south of the Syrian capital and just a short 50 km from the border with Israel. Satellite images of the purported site appear to show construction activity at the site between January and October this year. The images show a series of two dozen large and low-rise buildings, likely for housing soldiers and vehicles. The images do not reveal any signs of large or unconventional weaponry. The Iranian army has incurred heavy casualties in Syria, and the question now is whether they are preparing to remain in the long term, after President Bashar al-Assad reasserts control. The report comes amid growing tensions over Iran?s expansionism and influence in Syria and across the region. Iran has been establishing a logistical and supply line from Iran, through Syria and Iraq, to the Hezbollah terror group, its proxy in Lebanon. Israel fears that Iran will use its presence in Syria to establish another front against the Jewish state. Pray that this base will be destroyed by some kind of natural event
2. PM Netanyahu: ” Nip Bad Things in the Bud” Word Israel News Nov 12th
?As ISIS moves out, Iran moves in,? Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted last Sunday, following up on previous warnings. ?Iran wants to establish itself militarily in Syria, right next to Israel. Israel will not let that happen,? he added. In an interview with the BBC?s Andrew Marr, Netanyahu said Iran wanted to bring its air force and submarines as well as its military divisions very close to Israel. Asked whether Israel would use military force to stop such developments, Netanyahu told the BBC: ?You know, the more we?re prepared to stop it, the less likely we?ll have to resort to much greater things. There is a principle I very much adhere to, which is to nip bad things in the bud.? Pray the PM Netanyahu will stand by his promises
3. Jewish Population of Judea & Samaria on the Increase INN News Nov 14th
The Jewish population in Judea and Samaria is on the brink of a period of major growth, and could top one million residents within 10 to 15 years, a veteran settlement leader said Tuesday morning.
Secretary-General of the Amana settlement organization and a long-time activist in Judea and Samaria, shared his optimistic outlook for the future of Jewish communities in the area. ?The goal of getting to one million Jews in [Judea and Samaria] over the next decade or 15 years is absolutely achievable. It all depends on the work that we do.? He added that public opinion in Israel has shifted, with even some on the left abandoning their traditional support for large-scale evacuations of Jewish towns in Judea and Samaria. Some people claim it?s just a show for elections. But really there is a growing understanding of the consolidation of support nationally for the settlement movement.? Pray that the Jewish population of the Jewish heartland does indeed continue to increase as projected
4. Number of Turkish Jews Immigrating to Israel More than Doubles INN News Nov 14th
Bucking a slump in Western immigration to Israel under its law of return for Jews, movement from Russia has increased in 2017 and more than doubled from Turkey. In total, the 23,415 immigrants who have come to Israel from 1 Jan. 2017 to 30 Sept. 2017 constituted a 2% increase over the corresponding period last year, an interim report by the Jewish Agency for Israel showed. The 8% rise in immigration from the former Soviet Union, representing 13,192 individuals, helped make up for an 11% decrease from the United States, which brought 2,282 immigrants to Israel. Among the FSU figures, 5,661 immigrants came from Russia, where sanctions and a financial crisis exacerbated by low oil prices have halved the value of the ruble against the dollar since 2014. Ukraine, where the economy crashed following a revolution and territorial disputes with Russia after 2013, provided Israel with nearly 6,000 newcomers. Another noticeable increase came from Turkey, where many Jews are exploring immigration options amid political instability and allegations of state-tolerated anti-Semitism under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of the Islamist Justice and Development Party. This year, more than 350 Turkish Jews came, compared to 164 in the corresponding period last year. Pray that God will continue to fulfill this prophecy “For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land.? Ezek. 36:24
5. Russia Insists that Iran Buildup on Israel’s Border is Legitimate World Israel News Nov 15th
Russia?s foreign minister signaled Tuesday that Israeli demands to rid Syria?s southern border of hostile, Iranian-backed forces have fallen on deaf ears, telling reporters that an Iranian presence in the country is, in any event, ?legitimate.? Laborious diplomatic efforts undertaken by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recent years and months to convince Moscow to expel Iranian proxies from the precarious border on the Golan Heights were rebuffed by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who claimed that the Kremlin had never committed to fully removing the forces, nor had it signaled willingness to comply with Israeli demands that Iranian proxies or military bases be expunged for the country. Israel has repeatedly voiced its concerns about Iranian-backed proxies, such as Hezbollah entrenching themselves in the war-ravaged country, and particularly on Israel’s border with the Golan Heights. Pray that all Iranian military presence on Israel’s borders is removed.

Ahead of the shekel is the Chinese Yuan.
In February, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Israel’s economy is clearly growing. “When looking at the OECD countries, we are towards the top of the list, almost at the head, and this is very important,” PM Netanyahu said. “This creates jobs, raises wages and is good for the citizens of Israel.” Pray that the boycotters wake up to realise that they are wasting their time and energy trying to harm Israel financially.
