David’s Comment: Counting Down the ‘Omer’ to Shavuot / Pentecost
Leviticus 23:15-16  ?You shall count seven full weeks from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering. You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath. Then you shall present a grain offering of new grain to the Lord.?
Acts 1:1–5; 2:1-2
He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, ?you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.? When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind ?

I have shared with you on many occasions that the 7 Biblical Feasts are not ‘Jewish Feasts’, but they are the Feasts of YHVH. He describes them as ‘His Appointed Times.” Every important New Testament event occurs on the relevant Feast day. We recently celebrated Pesach or Passover, which remembers the Israelites’ deliverance and exodus from slavery in Egypt, and is the precise foreshadow of the events leading up to the death and resurrection of Yeshua, with His precious blood confirming the New Covenant for Israel and for anyone else who receives the atoning power of the blood of the Lamb of GOD.

We are now in the 50 day period that the Jewish people call the ‘Counting of the Omer‘ which leads up to the next Feast of YHVH – Shavuot or the Feast Weeks (1 week = 7 days – multiply 1 week x 1 week and you have 49 days leading into the 50th day). The Counting of the Omer begins on the day after the first Sabbath after the Passover. The Omer represents the first fruit of the grain harvest and it was at end of that Passover Sabbath that Yeshua rose from the dead, Himself becoming the First Fruit of resurrected man.

Forty days later, just before Yeshua returned to Heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father, He instructed His disciple to remain in Jerusalem until they were filled with the Holy Spirit. (Ruach ha Kodesh) They waited for another 10 days and as the 12 disciples were somewhere in the Temple compound (not in the upper room), there came that mighty rushing wind from Heaven and the 12 were baptised by tongues of fire, empowering them for apostolic ministry and changing their lives forever. Peter then stood up with the other 11 who had been hit by the Holy Spirit and he preached a very anointed message, and 3000 Jewish people were born again and they also received a portion of the Holy Spirit.

As I wrote above the Omer is related to the grain harvest and we make our bread from grain. The Feast of Shavuot celebrates the giving of the Torah or the Word of God at Mount Sinai. As we read in John1:1, Yeshua is the Word become Flesh and He is also the Bread of Life. Now we should all begin to see and understand the relevance of the Feasts of the LORD, and if we are really hungry for more of GOD in our lives, we can celebrate and learn from the Feasts.

The key element is that we have the Word or the Bread of Life dwelling in us, however we must have the other key element which is as much of the Ruach ha Kodesh or the Holy Spirit as possible dwelling inside of us.

So ……. as the Jewish people are Counting the Omer at this time, I want to encourage all of our ‘Grafted in to Israel’ (Romans 11:17) brothers and sisters in the nations, to be also counting down to the Day of Pentecost.I want to encourage you to fill your being with the Word (that means read the Bible) and pray everyday, maybe even fast, asking the Father to fill you afresh with the Ruach ha Kodesh.

Let us be Counting the Omer along with the Jewish people and be praying that we all receive a life changing impartation on the day of Shavuot / Pentecost.
T
The LORD bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist on the land given to the Jewish people by the God of Israel.  Lets pray that Israel will turn back to their God.  Do not be silent, but share this with your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to speak to. Lets also pray for that breakthrough to the Muslims, and please remember to pray Divine protection for all of the soldiers in the IDF.

Shabbat Shalom ……  David & Jose

1. Carmel Assembly Senior Pastor Passed Away

Pastor David David, the founder and former senior pastor of Carmel Assembly passed away on Sunday morning. Pastor David came to Israel some 30 years ago from Times Square Church in New York city. David originally set up The House of Victory drug and alcohol rehabilitation ministry in Haifa, and from there the Carmel Assembly congregation was birthed.
Because of David’s personal input into the lives of these men, dozens of former addicts are now walking with and serving the LORD. David’s love of GOD and His Word also had tremendous influence on the live of multitudes of people in the Body of Messiah here in Israel, and he has impacted tens of thousands of people as he ministered the Word of the LORD in the nations. David’s major ministry focus was The One New Man. I have no doubt that as David passed through the gates into eternity he heard those famous words “Well done good and faithful servant.”

David’s wife Karen is deeply grateful for the overwhelming expressions of love and support that she and David have experienced throughout this lengthy trial. For the past few days he was surrounded at his bedside at home by brothers and sisters, worshipping and praying.  He is now in the presence of the Lord and so our great loss is tempered with joy and the assurance we shall see him again. The funeral was held on Tuesday the Haifa Messianic cemetery. Please keep Karen and their 2 foster sons in your prayers

2. PM Netanyahu Accuses Abbas of Lying to President Trump   Israel Today News   May 5th

Few were surprised that the first words out of Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas’ mouth in his meeting with US President Donald Trump were bald-faced lies. “Mr. President, I affirm to you that we are raising our youth, our children, our grandchildren on a culture of peace,” Abbas claimed,“And we are endeavoring to bring about security, freedom and peace for our children to live like the other children in the world, along with the Israeli children in peace, freedom and security.”  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu immediately hit back. During a joint press conference with visiting Romanian Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu, Netanyahu stated: “I heard President Abbas yesterday say that the Palestinians teach their children peace. That?s unfortunately not true. They name their schools after mass murderers of Israelis and they pay terrorists.”

Netanyahu was referring to the fact that Abbas’ Palestinian Authority uses the massive amounts of foreign aid it receives to provide large stipends to Palestinian terrorists arrested by Israel. It also routinely names Palestinian schools, parks and summer camps after the most blood-soaked terrorists – those who have managed to kill the most Jews. Netanyahu did not even get into what Palestinian children are taught in local schools, where teachers and textbooks refer to Jews as sub-human, blood-thirsty monsters. And the incitement is even worse on after-school programming on Palestinian Authority-controlled television. It is a culture of death that Hamas, the largest party in the Palestinian parliament, has proudly admitted to. “For the Palestinian people, death has become an industry,” said Hamas parliamentarian Fathi Hammad. The Palestinians are “saying to the Zionist enemy: ‘We desire death like you desire life.’ Fortunately, there was some indication that Trump had not been taken in by Abbas’ lies. Lets pray that the US President is aware that he was lied to by the PA leader.

3. President Trump’s Tragic Mistake    Column One  News    May 5th

It is due to Trump?s heartfelt support for Israel and the USA-Israel alliance that his meeting on 3 May with PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas at the White House is most discouraging. By meeting with Abbas, and committing himself to working toward achieving a peace deal between Abbas and his PLO and Israel, Trump undermines Israel. He also undermines himself and his nation. Israel is the most immediate casualty of Trump?s decision to embrace Abbas and the PLO, because the PLO is Israel?s enemy. Abbas is an anti-Semite. His doctoral dissertation, which he later published as a book, is a Holocaust denying creed. Abbas engages in anti-Semitic incitement on a daily basis, both directly and indirectly. It was Abbas who called for his people to kill Jews claiming that we pollute Judaism?s most sacred site, the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, with our ?filthy feet.? The Palestinian media and school system which he controls with an iron fist both regularly portray Jews as evil monsters, deserving of physical annihilation. Abbas? PLO and his Palestinian Authority engage as a general practice in glorifying terrorist murderers. As has been widely reported in recent weeks, his PA and PLO also incentivize and underwrite terrorism to the tune of $300 million a year, which is paid, in accordance with PA law, to convicted terrorists sitting in Israeli prisons and their families. And that?s just the money we know about. In welcoming Abbas to the White House, Trump chose to ignore all of this in the interest of fostering a peace deal between Israel and the PLO. Let pray that President Trump does not go the way of the former US presidents and throw Israel ‘under the bus’.

4. Orthodox Jews Protest Outside Homes of Messianic Jews     Kehilah News   May 7th

Several ultra-Orthodox Jews, upset about the opening of a new Messianic meeting center in the town, protested outside two homes of believers in Dimona in southern Israel on Thursday, causing damage to their property and trauma to the children who live there. Albert and Esther Knoester recently opened up a meeting place in the Dimona center, in the same complex the rabbinate also uses. Albert is an elder at Nachalat Yeshua (Yeshua?s Inheritance) congregation in Beersheba. Protests took place outside their home and at the home of another congregant who lives in Dimona. Since the building began, the possibility of opposition loomed, but the building went on peacefully ? until Thursday. The protests began at the meeting place itself and continued later at the homes. It was uncertain whether the protests would be ongoing, but in the past some have continued or at least individual harassment has. When the protests threatened to continue into Thursday night, the Knoesters cancelled a regular gathering of believers that takes place at their home.

The anti-missionary organization, comprised mostly of ultra-Orthodox Jews, that has been known to target and harass Messianic Jews and Christians in Israel through protests and lawsuits among other means. They specifically go after those suspected of ?missionary activity.? For several years, ultra-Orthodox Jews have harassed and persecuted Messianic Jews in various parts of southern Israel, particularly in the town of Arad, on a near daily basis. In Arad it isn?t uncommon for protests to get personal, occurring at someone?s home instead of the congregation. Please pray for the safety of the believers in Dimona and that their testimony would shine God?s light to all those around!

5. President Trump May Break Promise to Move the US Embassy Back to Jerusalem   INN News May 10th

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s office on Wednesday responded to the report claiming US President Donald Trump had decided to extend the order preventing the US Embassy from being moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. “Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office has not received any notice about a decision by the US government to move or not to move the US Embassy,” an official notice said. “Israel’s stance is that all the embassies belong in Israel’s capital of Jerusalem, and the US Embassy should be one of the first to move.” Earlier on Wednesday, 360 reporter Ariel Kahana said that Trump had extended the order preventing the US Embassy from being moved to Jerusalem. Lets continue to pray that the US & other embassies will be re-established in Jerusalem in the LORD’s perfect timing

6. Turkish President Resumes His Verbal Attacks on Israel    Media Line   May 11th

Turkish President Erdogan has returned to form when it comes to vicious tirades against the state of Israel. Once a close and important ally who represented an all-important bridge between the Jewish state and the Muslim world, Erdogan was said to be playing to extremist elements in the Islamic world when he changed his tune and became arguably the angriest anti-Israel voice on the international scene. Then, in May 2010, a Turkish ship led an illegal flotilla that set out to run the blockade of the Gaza Strip and things turned violent when armed passengers on the Mavi Marmara fought with Israeli naval commandos, leaving nine Turks dead. Despite Erdogan?s continuing vitriol, after several years of negotiation, American intervention, an apology issued by PM Netanyahu and the payment of $20 million to the families of those who died on the Mavi Marmara, relations between Israel and Turkey resumed and Erdogan toned down his anti-Israel ravings, but apparently not for long. On Monday the Turkish president returned to form, appearing at a festival of Turkish support for Palestinian control of Jerusalem?s holy sites being held in Istanbul. Erdogan repeated the accusation that the Israelis are seeking to ?Juda-ize? the holy sites of Jerusalem and called on the masses to flock to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and resist Israel?s plans. Pray that the Turkish president keeps changes his attitude towards Israel or that he be removed from office.
