David’s Comment: Why We Covet Your Prayers
James 5:16 The fervent, effectual prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much
Josie and I, with out 2 sons Stefan & Jordan, left the peace and safety of clean, green New Zealand, 25 years ago at the end of July. Even before we left New Zealand we knew the potential danger of living in the Middle East and when we arrived in Israel, we had about 10 people who had pledged to uphold us in prayer. As the LORD began to send us out to the nations 5 years later, we began to build up our mailing list, and the number of people praying for us has been increasing ever since. As the years went by we communicated our needs to our prayer partners and we see amazing answers to our requests. We know, without a shadow of doubt, the power of prayer to protect, and bring provision for our family, and to our ministry and financial needs met.
Back in the time of the bus and restaurant terror bombings during 2004 – 2006, we had several close calls, but were spared from harm, and we choose to believe it was because the LORD responded to our prayer and the prayers of the saints. who were praying for us. As both Stefan and Jordan served their time in the Israeli army, both were involved in wars and saw other soldiers killed or injured, but the only injury was when Jordan broke his wrist during training time. Again we choose to believe that we still have both of our sons with us because the LORD heard your prayers..
Over the last 19 years of ministry time, we have flown on hundreds of flights, and travelled thousands of miles in cars and trains. Accidents do happen, and obviously the more one travels, the higher the odds of being involved in some kind of incident. That is why we never go anywhere without sending out a prayer request, and letting our prayer partners know where we are going, so that we are covered in prayer. Over the last 19 years of extensive travel, we have never been involved in even a minor incident of any kind, proving that prayer works. However now we have a testimony to tell …….
Josie and I have just returned from 3 weeks ministering in the USA and Canada. While we were in the USA, we were involved in a situation which could have been very serious, but we believe that we were spared by Divine protection. We were in Denver, Colorado and one of our hosts kindly offered to take us for a tour of the local area. We had just driven through a beautiful little town in the mountains and were heading for another town to have lunch. A few hundred meters ahead of us, we noticed 2 vehicles stopped in both lanes of the highway. As the brother who was driving slowed down to almost a stop, I said “what is happening here ?” Then we saw the reason that they had stopped – a deer was crossing the highway. As we approached the 2 stationary vehicles, we were moving very slowly, when all of a sudden a car passed us at speed and drove straight into both of the stationary vehicles ahead.
The driver did not even apply the brakes and it was only the impact that stopped her car instantly, ripping the front of her car apart and damaging both of the other vehicles. We saw the whole thing happen right in front of our eyes. Fortunately none of the drivers of the damaged vehicles were injured, but the young woman who was driving the car that hit the other two was in shock. I got out of our small car to assist the others until the police and rescue services arrived, and Josie was consoling and praying with the young woman. She called her parents who arrived at the scene in just 5 minutes as they lived in the town that we had just passed through. While Josie was ministering to the driver and her mother, the mother noticed that Josie was wearing a pendant with Hebrew writing on it. “What is that she asked bluntly?” When Josie told her that it was the Shema (Jewish creed), the mother said “we are Jewish too.” We told them we were Messianic Jews from Israel, and Josie had further opportunity to speak to them about God and returning to Israel.
On one hand it seemed to be a Divine appointment, but once we left the scene of the accident and finally sat down to eat lunch, we realised that we had all had a very close brush with a potential tragedy. When that car came speeding past us before crashing into the other vehicles, it was so close that it clipped the mirror of our car. If she had been a few inches over to the right, we would have been more than witnesses to an accident. If the driver had seen the stopped cars and hit the brakes hard, she could have swerved to the left across the centre line and had a head on collision with a vehicle coming the other way, or if she has swerved to the right she could have hit the side of our small car where Josie was sitting, or hit us very hard in the rear end, causing at the least, back and neck injuries.
However, Praise the LORD, we were all spared and thinking about it afterwards, it was like the car we were in was protected in a supernatural, protective bubble. Over all of the thousands of miles we have travelled over 19 years of ministry in the nations, this was the closest we have ever come to being involved in a serious accident. This is the very reason we never step outside of Israel without sending out a request for prayer cover, and we believe that we were so close, but untouched, because of the prayers of our faithful brothers and sisters in the nations.
This is why we covet your prayer support, so please continue to pray for us when we ask, and even when we don’t ask, please keep Josie and I, and all of our family in your prayers. Your prayer may one day make the difference between life and death. We deeply appreciate your love and support and we pray that the LORD will also watch over and protect you and your family.
The LORD bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist on the land given to the Jewish people by the God of Israel. Lets pray that Israel will turn back to their God. Do not be silent, but share this with your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to speak to. Lets also pray for that breakthrough to the Muslims, and please remember to pray Divine protection for all of the soldiers in the IDF.
Shabbat Shalom …… David & Jose

1. President Trump Postpones His Promise to Move the US Embassy Israel News Report May 31st
President Trump has announced that he will not be moving the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. During his campaign, Trump promised to move the embassy to Jerusalem, pleasing many Israelis and pro-Israel Christian voters. But the White House says he can?t do it just yet. ?No one should consider this step to be in any way a retreat from the President?s strong support for Israel and for the United States-Israel alliance,? the White House said in a statement. The statement states that the president made the decision because he intends to push ahead with plans for peace negotiations. ?President Trump made this decision to maximize the chances of successfully negotiating a deal between Israel and the (so called) Palestinians, fulfilling his solemn obligation to defend America?s national security interests,? the statement said. ?But, as he has repeatedly stated his intention to move the embassy, the question is not if that move happens, but only when.”
The office of Israeli PM Netanyahu issued a statement expressing disappointment with the decision. ?Israel?s consistent position is that the American embassy, like the embassies of all countries with whom we have diplomatic relations, should be in Jerusalem, our eternal capital. Maintaining embassies outside the capital keeps alive the lie that the Jewish people and the state of Israel have no connection to Jerusalem,? the statement said. He has followed all the former presidents, postponing the decision for another six months. For more than 20 years, the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act, stipulating that the embassy be relocated to Jerusalem, has been postponed on the basis of further complicating the peace process between Israel and the Arab nations, which actively warns against such a move. While Trump reportedly would like to fulfill his campaign promise, he appears to have opted for postponement to avoid condemnation by the Arab nations and other Western allies. Let’s continue to pray that President Trump will not be intimidated by political pressure and that he keeps his promise to make the USA great again by leading the other nations, by being the first to re-acknowledge Jerusalem as the undivided capital city of Israel and moving the embassy back where it should be.
2. Israel to Approve Wave of New Homes in Judea & Samaria INN News June 4th
Israel?s Higher Planning Committee is scheduled to meet this week to approve a series of building projects in Jewish communities in Judea & Samaria. The projects include plans for more than 2,600 housing units. If passed as expected, this would mark the first time the committee has approved housing projects in Jewish communities in Judea & Samaria since President Trump took office. The hearings will cover a number of projects which had been blocked out of political considerations. The projects include housing outside of the major settlement blocs, in towns in central Samaria. Officials in Jerusalem say the housing projects are not likely to elicit criticism from the White House, noting the communication between the Prime Minister?s Office and the Trump administration regarding Israeli policy in Judea & Samaria. Pray Israel will stand strong in its resolve to provide much needed housing for its citizens and pursue its right to expand long standing and thriving Jewish communities ? despite international disapproval.
3. PM Netanyahu: Giving Away Land Will Not Bring Peace Jerusalem Post June 3rd
PM Benjamin Netanyahu said that any future peace agreement reached with the Palestinians must include an Israeli military presence in Judea & Samaria, and offered insight on security concerns the government may have following a prospective deal. Netanyahu said that “In any peace agreement we [Israel] will have to maintain military control of all the territory west of the Jordan River. This is the truth and I will continue saying this truth.” Netanyahu indicated that an Israeli military withdraw from all areas of Judea & Samaria would create a vacuum prone to takeover by extremists, who could pose a threat to Israeli security. Pray that PM Netanyahu remains as Israel’s PM and that he stands strong against world pressure to give away any land for any reason.
4. US Senate Reaffirms Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital Israel Today News June 6th
The US Senate on Monday voted 90-0 in favor of a resolution reaffirming that a united Jerusalem is and will forever remain Israel’s capital city. The vote was held to mark the 50th anniversary of Jerusalem’s reunification under Israeli rule during the Six Day War in 1967. The resolution called upon President Donald Trump to abide by a 1995 law stipulating that the US Embassy be relocated from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama all sidestepped the law by citing national security. There remains hope in Israel that Trump will buck that trend. In related news, US Ambassador Nikki Haley on Tuesday again chastised the United Nations Human Rights Council for its obsession with criticizing Israel, even as genuine human rights crises elsewhere go unmentioned. “It is essential that this council address its chronic anti-Israel bias if it wants to maintain its credibility,” Haley insisted. Pray that President Trumps heeds the senate vote and speaks up for Jerusalem
5. US Amabassasor to the UN Arrives in Israel World Israel News June 7th
?If there?s anything I have no patience for it is bullies, and the UN was being such a bully to Israel,? US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley told Netanyahu during her visit to the Jewish state. Nikki Haley, one of the most outspoken officials in the Trump administration, arrived in Israel for a three-day visit, her first to the Jewish state. ?We are honored to welcome you to our country and thank you for standing resolutely by our side,? Israel?s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said in his greeting. ?We look forward to showing you our beautiful country as we work together to further strengthen our alliance.? She first met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who thanked her for ?standing up for Israel, standing up for the truth, which is standing up for America.? ?People appreciate truth. We have an ancient Hebrew saying that when somebody tells a truth, you can feel it. So people feel it, they not only understand it, they feel it,? he said. Let’s give thanks to the LORD for the Nikki Hayley’s bold stand for the truth
6. US Department Store Selling Anti-Israel Clothing Rage Jerusalem Post June 5th
Times must be tough in the appliances sector: Classic American department store Sears has turned to commercializing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Now customers can pick up a women’s “Free Palestine” t-shirt in their choice of six colors. The t-shirt features a fist in the colors of the Palestinian flag, with the words “Free Palestine, End Israeli Occupation” emblazoned on the front. The product description encourages shoppers to “Make a statement about the Arab-Israeli conflict with this powerful design.” A Sears representative was not immediately available for comment. Meanwhile, social media is responding to the advertisement by Sears featuring the slogan “Free Palestine” on sweatshirts, T-shirts and tank tops. Other variations include the Palestinian Authority flag or its colors, a map of Israel and a V for victory salute, as well as upraised fists, and masked figures. One person reacted on Facebook by saying, “Time to boycott Sears….” Pray that many customers and people will shout loudly about this anti-Israel, violence inciting apparel and that it will be off the shelves and out of the Sears catalogs immediately and boycott the stores if they don’t.
7. Lebanon Bans Wonder Woman Movie
The new blockbuster movie ?Wonder Woman,? starring Israeli actress Gal Gadot, has been met with rave reviews internationally. However, the movie has been banned in Lebanon.
Lebanese law stipulates a mandatory boycott on Israeli products and bars Lebanese citizens from traveling to Israel or having contact with them. Nevertheless, Wonder Woman was set to premiere in Beirut on Wednesday and Lebanon?s Grand Cinema chain had planned to show the movie in 16 of its 18 cinemas. The plans were scrapped following a concerted boycott campaign launched by the Lebanese Ministry of Economy and the Boycott Supporters of Israel-Lebanon organization. Then, Lebanon?s Interior ministry reportedly ?decided to ban the screening of this film based on the recommendation of the Arab League?s Israel Boycott Office.? The boycott campaign, which had gained much traction on social media, played on the fact that Gadot served as an IDF soldier during the Second Lebanon War of 2006 between Israel and Hezbollah. ?The Israeli soldier. She has no place in Lebanon,? read a headline in the al-Akhbar newspaper. Wonder Woman has nevertheless opened in other Arab countries as well as in Israel. It is now playing in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait and is set to open in Oman and Bahrain. Pointing out that the movie will be viewed online and on DVD, sales and distribution manager for Grand Cinemas, Isaac Fahed, told reporters that ?The end result will only? affect the cinemas.? ?We sold many tickets and we had to cancel now,? he said.
