David’s Comment: Israel Needs Some 21st Century ‘Macabees’
Psalm 122:6  Pray for the peace of Jerusalem
Next Tuesday Israel and the Jewish people worldwide will celebrate the festival of Hanukah, or the Festival of Dedication. Hanukah is not one of the Feasts of the LORD that He commanded Israel to keep, but it is mentioned in the New Testament. Hanukah is also called the Festival of Light because about 180 years before Yeshua was born, Israel was under the cruel occupation of the Greek-Syrian army led by General Antiochus Epiphanes. During that occupation many Jews embraced the Greek culture and its Hellenistic, pagan .way of life. Jewish Hellenists assisted Antiochus’s goal to abolish every trace of the Jewish religion. Eventually Antiochus took the treasures from the Temple and forbid the Jews from keeping their holy traditions, such as the Sabbath, kosher laws, studying their holy books, and the practice of circumcision. To prove his dominance he desecrated the Holy Alter by sacrificing a forbidden, unclean pig on it. Antiochus went so far as .to proclaim himself a god, taking the name Epiphanes god. Altars were erected with statues of the Greek gods and goddesses in every Israeli city and town. Soldiers forced Jews to make offerings, to eat forbidden foods, and to engage in other immoral acts. Some of the Jews resisted, and refused to follow Greek practices and would not bow down to the Greek’s pagan idols, but many did.

.A small group of Jews, under the leadership of Judas Macabee and his brothers, employed guerilla warfare and succeeded in driving the Syrians out. The Macabees regained control of the Holy Temple, and began the task of purifying it. The altar which had been defiled by the sacrifice of pig upon it was torn.down and rebuilt. All new holy vessels were crafted. They rebuilt .the Temple, restored its interior, and consecrated the Temple courts. They renewed the sacred vessels and the lamp-stand, and brought the altar of incense and the table into the Temple. The Temple was then rededicated to God with festivities that lasted eight days. When the Jews cleaned out the temple idols, they found only one small cruse of oil with only enough oil for one day to light the holy lamp. They decided to light the Menorah .(the Temple candelabra) even with the small amount of oil. To everyone’s amazement the menorah miraculously burned for eight days until new..oil was ready to use. That is the miracle of God that is celebrated by Jews around the world at Hanukah.

The evil force that motivated Antiochus Epiphanes is the same spirit that motivated Pharoah and Haman. It .is none other than Satan himself.  And it has been the same demonic spirit that has relentlessly pursued the Jews over the last 2000 years, as they have been scattered around the entire globe, contained in ghettos and killed in numbers that must come close to 10 million over the last 2000 years. Satan has always been, and is still desperate to destroy the Jewish people. Not because of what we are, but because of who we.represent. The fact that there were Jews 2000 years ago and the fact that there are still Jews today, despite all the efforts of Hell to eradicate us, is hard evidence of the “3rd kind” that the God of Israel is the Most High God and He chose Israel  to represent Him here on Earth.

The God of Israel is fulfilling His prophetic promises to restore the Land of Israel and bring ALL of the House of Israel (Ezekiel 36:8 – 10) .home to the very same piece of land that spoken of in His covenant promise (Psalm 115:6-12 ), the land that was once called Canaan and is now called Israel. This is an anathema to Satan, because he knows that the physical and spiritual restoration of Israel is one of the key requirements that preempts the second coming of Messiah Yeshua. No wonder he viciously opposes Israel and the Jewish people.

When the Lord gave Moses the victory over Pharoah and the Israelites passed through the Red Sea, God was preparing them to.finally go in to occupy the Land that He covenanted to the seed of Abraham 430 years earlier. But there were already other people living there. As Joshua and Caleb led the Israelites in, the existing inhabitants were not ‘ happy campers’, to say the least. Israel was almost constantly at war with the people who were displaced and with the neighbouring peoples. 3500 later, at the pre-appointed time, the Lord began to send His people back into the Promised Land...Again there were already inhabitants living there and again they were not ‘ happy campers ‘ as the Jews began to stream home. And again they declared war on Israel and that has been the situation ever since. Today Iran, which is ancient Persia poses the greatest threat to Israel, continues to develop nuclear weapons, at the same time financially and militarily backing the terror organisations as they all regularly and openly declare their goal to destroy Israel.

If we know the Bible, we know that Israel’s enemies will fail and God’s ‘chosen nation’ will become the capital of His Kingdom on the Earth. The Jewish people are soon to be rededicated to the Lord. Then as well as being a physical Temple in Israel, .ALL of Israel will become a Holy Temple – God’s Temple. As the Jewish people around the world begin to celebrate the historical Hanukah, it would be a wonderful thing if the non Jewish .members of God’s family would stand in the gap for the elder brothers and sisters – the Jewish people. .We have all come to the Kingdom for such a time as this, a time of prophetic developments, not seen since the time of Yeshua.

As Israel and the Jewish people remember and celebrate this Hanukah, Let us all stand with this tiny nation, praying and interceding as never before, for all the Jews to return to the Promised Land and for all the Jewish people to come to faith in the real Light of the Temple – YESHUA  the Messiah King.

Shabbat Shalom ……  David & Josie

1.  President Trump Keeps His Promise to Recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital     Times of Israel News    Dec 6th

Defying dire, worldwide warnings, US President Donald Trump has broken with decades of US and international policy by recognizing Jerusalem as Israel?s capital. Despite urgent appeals from Arab and European leaders and the risk of anti-American protests and violence, Trump declared that he was ending an approach that for decades has failed to advance the prospects for peace. He also for the first time personally endorsed the concept of a ?two-state solution? for Israel and the Palestinians, provided both sides agree to it.
?I have determined that it is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,? he said in a White House address, calling it ?overdue? and in the best interests of the United States. He said recognition acknowledged the ?obvious? that Jerusalem is the seat of Israel?s government despite the disputed status that is one of the key elements in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. ?This is nothing more or less than the recognition of reality,? he said. Trump also directed that the State Department begin the process of moving the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem as required by US law. Officials said, however, that the move will take years to complete. Trump maintained that his decision would not compromise the city?s geographic and political borders, which will still be determined by Israel and the Palestinians. PM Netanyahu praised Trump, saying Israel was ?profoundly grateful.? ?This is a historic day,? Netanyahu said in a video message. ?We?re profoundly grateful for the president for his courageous and just decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to prepare for the opening of the US embassy here.? Netanyahu said the move reflects Trump?s ?commitment to an ancient but enduring truth, to fulfilling his promises and to advancing peace.? Pray that the US will relocate the embassy as soon as possible

2. Arab World Angry After US Decision on Jerusalem   Times of Israel News   Dec 6th

Top Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said  Trump?s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel?s capital ?disqualified the United States to play any role in any peace process.? Turkey led Muslim opposition calling it against international law. (NOT TRUE) ?We condemn the irresponsible statement of the US Administration declaring that it recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and it will be moving the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.” Ahead of Trump?s speech, Arab and Muslim leaders spoke about the potential for violence. In Gaza, hundreds of Palestinian protesters burned American and Israeli flags. They also waved Palestinian flags and banners proclaiming Jerusalem as their ?eternal capital,? language that Israelis similarly use for their nation. Even America?s closest allies in Europe questioned the wisdom of Trump?s radical departure from the past US position, which was studiously neutral over the sovereignty of the city. Jerusalem includes the holiest ground in Judaism. It?s also home to Islam?s third-holiest shrine and major Christian sites, and any perceived harm to Muslim claims to the city has triggered protests in the past, in the Holy Land and beyond. The America?n consulate in Jerusalem has ordered US personnel and their families to avoid visiting Jerusalem?s Old City or the West Bank, and urged American citizens in general to avoid places with increased police or military presence. Pray that the LORD will hold back any violence against Israel and the USA in response to this move

3. IDF Soldier Murdered in Terror Attack   INN News   Dec 3rd

IDF soldier Sergeant Ron Yitzhak Kukia, 19, who was murdered on Thursday evening in the stabbing attack in Arad, was laid to rest on Sunday afternoon, accompanied by hundreds of family and friends.
Security forces are doing everything they can to capture the murderers, and they will be caught and pay a heavy price.? “Ron was brought up to love,” eulogized Boaz, the soldier’s father, “the State of Israel does not do enough to fight its enemies, And I call on all sectors to be more united and more tolerant of one another.” The Shin Bet and the Israel Police are engaged in an exhaustive manhunt after the terrorist responsible for Thursday evening’s grisly terror attack near Arad that took the life of the 19-year-old soldier from Tel Aviv. Hundreds of police officers and IDF soldiers are searching for the terrorist, who escaped after murdering Kukia and stealing his weapon. Police concluded after extensive searches that the terrorist is not in Arad. Pray that the murdered is apprehended and rendered unable to kill again

4. Several Iranian Soldiers Killed as Israel Attacks Base in Syria     World Israel News   Dec 3rd

Several Iranian soldiers were killed or wounded when Israel bombed a base in Syria on Saturday. Neither Israel nor Iran has confirmed reports on the incident. Israel fired several missiles at a military post near the Syrian capital of Damascus early on Saturday, causing damage. The target was reportedl to be an Iranian military base that is under construction south of the Syrian capital and just a short 50 km from the border with Israel. Satellite images of the purported site, published by the BBC last month, appear to show construction activity at the site between January and October of this year. The images show a series of two dozen large and low-rise buildings, likely for housing soldiers and vehicles. Israel reportedly relayed a rare and sharp message to President Bashar al-Assad?s regime in Syria last week, stating that it will not accept Iraiian forces on its borders and will act against them ? and against Assad himself ? if need be.

Iran is actively working to establish a military presence in Syria, augmented by Shiite militias, chiefly the Hezbollah terror group. Furthermore, Iran is reportedly working to build precision missile factories in the country as well as air and sea ports.Iran and its proxies have been supporting the Assad regime in the Syrian civil war and have deployed a force estimated at 500 Iranian army soldiers, 5,000 Hezbollah terrorists and several thousand guerrillas from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. Such a military presence would open another front against Israel on its northern border and bring the Iranian threat to its doorstep. Pray that Israel will not hesitate to deal with any threats from Iran or any other terror group.

5. PM Netanyahu: “Israel Will Not Tolerate Iranian Bases in Lebanon or Syria   INN News    Dec 3rd

Israeli P.M. Binyamin Netanyahu spoke in a video about Israel’s policy regarding Iran’s nuclear program. The video was recorded on Thursday and released on Saturday. “Let me reiterate Israel’s policy,” Netanyahu said. “We will not allow a regime hell-bent on the annihilation of the Jewish state to acquire nuclear weapons.” “We will not allow that regime to entrench itself militarily in Syria as it seeks to do for the express purpose of eradicating our state.” In the early hours of Saturday morning, Israel reportedly attacked a military base 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) south of Damascus and 50 kilometers (31 miles) from Israel’s border. According to some reports, the base in question was intened fro use by Iranian forces. Iran is currently establishing a base in Syria. In August, Mossad Director Yossi Cohen warned that  the Iranian regime is expandin its control across the Middle East through proxy forces in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen. Last Sunday, Syrian President Assad sent a message to P.M. Netanyahu saying that he was ready to discuss disarmament of the Golan Heights up to 40 km or 29 miles from the current border. Pray that PM Netanyahu will stand by his statement

6. UN Passes 6 New Resolutions Against the Jewish State, – One Denying Israeli Sovereignty Over Jerusalem   INN News   Dec 3rd

The U.N. General Assembly in New York passed six resolutions on Thursday affirming Palestinian rights and condemning Israeli violations of international law. According to one resolution (?Jerusalem?), ?the Assembly reiterated that any actions by Israel, the occupying Power, to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the Holy City of Jerusalem were illegal and therefore null and void.? This resolution was adopted by 151 votes in favor to 6 against (Canada, Federated States of Micronesia, Israel, Marshall Islands, Nauru, United States), with 9 abstentions (Australia, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Honduras, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, South Sudan, Togo). Israel?s delegate condemned the resolutions, claiming that the UN ?continued to annually adopt biased resolutions and devote precious resources to politicized bodies whose sole purpose was to attack and denounce Israel?. The US representative ?echoed that opposition.? Pray that the UN is dissolved and replaced by the government of the King of Kings as soon as possible

7. PM Netanyahu: More Nations Ready to Recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital      Times of Israel News  Dec 6th

Israel is talking with more countries about recognizing Jerusalem as Israel?s capital, Prime Minister Netanyahu said on Thursday. His announcement comes as the UN Security Council in New York prepares to hold a meeting in New York to discuss President Trump?s decision to officially recognise Jerusalem and move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. PM Netanyahu lauded Trump?s decision explaining that he had earned himself ?an eternal role? in Jerusalem?s history and the annals of the Jewish people. ?Yesterday was a momentous day,? Netanyahu said. ?Jerusalem has an extraordinary history and over the millennium, you can cite a few significant milestones, yesterday?s statement by President Trump is such a milestone.? The PM that he had no doubt that once the US embassy is relocated to Jerusalem and even before, other countries would follow suit.  President Trump made history  when he recognized that Jerusalem was Israel’s capital, almost 70 years after the United States voted in the United Nations to accept Israel as a member state. But until this year, no country recognized Jerusalem as the country?s capital and none of them have embassies in the city, which is Israel?s seat of government, even though their leaders and diplomats frequently visit and hold meetings in Jerusalem. In the spring, Russia became the first country to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, but he limited that recognition to the western part of the city. On Wednesday night, in an unusual move, the Czech Republic broke ranks with the European Union which prefers to act as a bloc, and issued a similar endorsement. Pray that more countries will make the same decision and move their embassies.

8. Israel Cancels Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit in Germany

A planned exhibition of the Dead Sea Scrolls set for 2019 has been cancelled after the German government refused to guarantee the return of the artifacts to Israel. After all, the Palestinians might lay claim to the scrolls while they are abroad. In other words, contemporary Germany (and likely many other nations) isn’t sure whether it considers the scrolls to be Jewish property. The director of the Frankfurt Bible Museum said that the museum was unable to obtain a document required by Israel that Germany would guarantee “immunity from seizure.” Addressing the issue the culture minister for the German state of Hesse, explained that Germany?s Foreign Ministry and the country?s federal commissioner for culture are uncertain of the Israeli claim to the scrolls. The first scrolls were found in the Qumran area in 1947. The first scrolls were found by a Bedouin shepherd and were quickly sold to Israel through the mediation of archeologist Eliezer Sukenik. In 1952, Bedouin bounty hunters found more scrolls, including a large trove containing 15,000 parchments representing 500 different books. In 1954, archeologist Yigael Yadin, Sukenik’s son, bought four more scrolls for Israel. In the early 1960s, more scrolls were found in the unquestionably Israeli sites south of Ein Gedi. Most of the scrolls were written in Hebrew.
